Ola Tankers,
I know that I have asked before but I have never had a decent reply. I want to install two speed controllers into my tiger to give realistic speeds. I also want to control the other functions from the same 6/7 channel reciever. Does anyone know how to re-rig the electrics to the gun, barrel and turret motors. I want to chuck the HL electronics. I am used to installing electrics etc in the many model boats that I have but before I trash the fitted elctrics I wanted to make sure that i am not missing something. For example would it be a possibilty to install micro swithces to make the gunfire, turret rotate and barrell raise?
Please respond with ideas guys and gals.

Mike, do yourself a favor, do not spend $200 into henglong and get not eve 10% of perfection of tamiya. I have done a all modification including gun recoil, turret rotation, gun elevation with ESCs but that will be lots of work and money. then the result is no sound, no light. and not acurate.
if you made up your mind on modifying HL, pm me, I will give you my phone, so we can talk over the phone, it is too long to type all modification u need.

The guys over on the Marui Tank Group will be able to help you out without all the negativity. If you go to my website, and look on the Groups & Distributos page, you'll find the link there (I'm not allowed to post the MTG link here due to forum rules)
Here's a direct link to my links page: http://www.freewebs.com/whitewolf_mc...stributors.htm
A few guys have done that mod, and even after metal track and suspension, you come out with a tank thats has a proper Tx/Rx set and fully proportional controls for less than the base cost of a Tamiya kit alone.

From: HORSHAM, PA,
is there any metal suspension for HL tiger? the HL suspension is kind of Chrity suspension used on t34. not the torsion bar system on german tanks.
(MIke, it is up to you. some facts you need to know before you spend)spend money on something not even acurate?
why do you want to encourage people do that?
do you have any Henglong? have you done the mod before? do you how much work are we talking about here? and how much money? then not acurate result?

Tom not everyone is looking for a historically perfect model. I understand the desire to do so when you are looking to make your model a perfect to historical scale as possible, but alot of us just want something to play with, that acts "similar" to a real tank. I want to try a Tamiya, but cant justify theprice. After upgrading one of them to all the "goody" parts I am sure that I'll have well over 1100 into it. Can't afford it. But for a fraction of the cost I can modify a HL and play, and from what I have seen so far take some or all of the components and swap them over to a Tamiya if I ever fall into a cashload to spend on the Tamiya.
Mike I'm not that good with the complexity of the circuits in my Tiger. Very simple circuits and the soldering I can do, but this is beyond my scope (at least to modify the existing boards. The mauri groups are a good source for mods and so is the German board that we are not allowed to give links to anymore. If you want that link email me and I'll gladly send it to you.

Hi all thanks for the replies. All the people who slate the hen long tanks should think before stating the obvious. Yes HL are cheap and nasty, yes they dont allways work properly out of the box and they break quite easily. They only cost £45.00 on ebay, whereas the Tamiya version is £600 plus. The HL is not promoted by the manufacturer as being an outdoor toy. It also states several things that you shouldnt do to it like let it run off a high curb. You dont need to be a rocket scientist to work that out. My electric mods will cost a fraction of the purchase price. Two speed controllers £40.00. three servos (turret movement, gun elivation and firing £0.00 cos I already have them. Microswitches £pennies. Paint job free cos as a modeller I have the paints. Transmitter and reciever £0.00 cos I already have these on other models. So all in all I believ the HL tanks are ok. My son loves his and gets all exited at being able to cover the garden in BB pelets. As for me I wont bother with the firing gun. The body shell is reasonable and with some sensible detailing will look superb. I am more interested in slowing it down and having it look authentic than having it play music and serve drinks if you catch my drift. One day when I can justify the price of a tamiya I may get one, but by then I might want a 1/6th scale at £3500 so who knows. Right ive finished ranting See you. Mike

hello,
well, same ol' battle betwen Hen long owner and tamiya's fan.
i won't "spray oil into the fire" but i'm the very happy owner of a pershing hen long and waiting for the tiger..
same bla-bla, great fun on the carped, a litle detailing and those baby looks great...
as far as i know, it's the same stuff than the litle 1/10th scale nitro cars.. the sheap one are hard to
get to works, you always do mecanic on them for a poor result... but well, they get lot's of people to
know RC fun and they are great firts step !
nobody is sure to spend 1000€ on a great 1/5th, went yçou stard a hobby, rigth ?
stop for the bla bla, about the way to get our poor hen long to work and beat the ch... out of the tamiya ( i'm kiding, guys... )
as for the speed, i found a cool stuff ! the gears ! i just received mine, but didn(t instaled it yet.
i let ya know when i'll put it together.
but the gears, ( for 29€ ) are suposed to slow down the tank and gave it more torque.
on the paper, that look great, huh ?
here is the link :
http://cgi.ebay.fr/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...MEWN%3AIT&rd=1
did you noticed, it's all in french, but if you want to send the guy a word, i'll be glad to translate it for you.
or maybe there is the same think on e-bay USA ?
well, here you go, hey, when are we fighting a litlle hen long / tamiya VS ?

Deano, try goin gto the MATO Toys web site. I picked up a set of tracks and gears for about the same price as E-bay sell them. The advantage being for a few extra pounds if anything is wrong you've got some one to go back to. Regards HVI

I installed a ANT 150 Dual ESC in my HL Tiger, works very well indeed. At least so far, all test runs have gone well. Unit provides total speed control along with the ability to drive with the right stick and control the throttle with the left. One can make shallow turns as well as pivot in place.
and the price was aprox $65.00 US This is the web site.

Hi all thanks for the input. My son's tiger broke the plastic casing where the rear idler wheel fits so that will be stripped out and messed about with until I have found the best way of putting cheap speed control into it. He now has mine. I am seperating from my wife and buying my own house so my consoling gift to myself will be a tamiya full option leopard and a pershing. Cant wait. Once ive finished the three projects I will put details on this site. By the way the new back garden will have an area dedicated to off road tanking.
See you later. Mike
