I wonder why the star on the front is upside down.

Cause the soldiers hanging it really don't care what position it's in as long as it's on the tank?

Sounds reasonable enough.

The reason I asked is, since this picture was from around the Battle of the Bulge time frame and considering the well known fact that Germans were posing as GI's, I find it odd that they would take a chance of friendly fire with this "mistake". It is on the front side though, and that one on the side is hung right. If what you are saying is true, the soldier that hung it must not be riding on this monster! Maybe it was some kind of well known symbol?

Or a soldier just did what you suggested..

You make a good point with the Germans posing as GIs.

If I saw the pic with no comment I'd think it was Germans in a training exercise. Posing as US soldiers to "fight" other Germans to hone their skills. Just as we do today.

i was also thinging about german's manoeuvers.

but at that time, do you realy think that germans needed exercise ? or is it a propaganda ? i don't think it's a pre-war pic since the tank look litle "beat up "

the question is, what is the point for allied to ride a german tank ? is it just because there where some gas in it ? ( don't laught, it's well knowed that
there was a lack of gas for allied, after the D-day. )

to fight ? well, on a field, having a king tiger is a god point, no ? specialy if it's "free"...

second question i'm wondering, do allied would have the amo to fire and reload the main gun ?
cause a tank without the main gun is nothing but a vehicule... ( safer that a willys, right )

The Germans had a unit that was sent into allied territory to cause a bit of havok - moving road signs, sabotaging things and causing panic as GIs realized they might not actually be speaking to a GI but an undercover German. The propaganda from this was more effective than anything they actually did. They used an assortment of captured vehicles along with some Panthers with plates welded over them to make them look like M10 Tank destroyers but no King Tigers. This is possibly a group of US engineers taking a captured (or more likely abandoned run out of fuel) Tiger back for more detailed examination at HQ as was done on a regular basis. The stars would have been strung up to stop friendly fire and it would not have mattered what way up they were as long as they were big and visable. Would make a nice subject for a build though as would a Panther with the welded on panels - anything to make the HL panther look better is good

well if you look carefully you see that those stars are not painted on the Tiger II but they are painted on a pice of fabric and laid on the Tiger,i wounder why???.And keep in mind that the King Tiger came out middle to late 1944 wich gives it only a slim chance of this being a prpaganda and there where two different versions of the king tiger,1 had a Persche Turret and the other (the one on that pic) had a Henschell turret.but gorehound already explaind it very well,i saw the same thing in the Movie "Battle of the Bulge"
