Ironically, Heavyaslead and I were discussing this tank on a recent thread....this sounds like a better place to post.

Heavyaslead, can you imagine the cost of a Sturmtiger with Leo motors, gears and electronics!?!!?

Tiger 1 kit....$500.00+
Sturmtiger conversion kit.....$400.00+
Leopard kit (cheaper than buying the parts)....$800.00+
Beating the crap out of every other Tamiya tank in the world.....priceless.

Tom is working on a Sturmtiger right now and I want to build one, too. BYA is out of the Wecohe kits and even though they will be selling the Imperial Model Sturmtiger Conversion Kit, they do not have any in stock at the moment. [&o]

Looks like quite a NICE BackYard ARMOR KIT!!!!!!!![sm=thumbup.gif] Very detailed.... I am sure it would take some really refined scratch building skills and lots of cussing and praying to come up with anything like that in that detail level !!!

Those things are really intimidating. [sm=stupid.gif] I would hate to have been in a tank or even a building when a Sturmtiger rolled into town.

If I remember correctly, only two were built, either that or only two saw combat.

It's very low rate of fire is it's achilles heel, it's like one round per minute. In combat mission you should be sure that all of your oponents tanks and at guns are dead before you roll it out of hiding.

The blast radius from that 300mm mortar is insane though, it can kill two tanks with one shot.

In real life the mortar was actually an antisubmarine weapon, unless I'm not remembering correctly.

Scratch-builders always amaze me! I bet I could do it too.......if I had designs and a materials list.

I would pay to sit down with one of these guys and get a tutorial on how they come up with some of these ideas and how they transfer that information to styrene.

Thanks for the links, Stern! I haven't heard anything from you in a while......any new projects to report on?

Scratch building is all application and trial & error. Get measurements from either the real thing, or a model and get busy with a calculator!

Lathes and other equiptment make the job much easier and faster.

I for one do not have the time nor the dedication and my hats are truely off to them for what they have accomplished!!

I wonder if buying a smaller scale, plastic model might help.....

I could scale the tank up and have the parts in my hand that I want to duplicate. It would already be in little pieces, too....hmmmm......
