I wanted to take this outside on my freshly cut lawn but of course it's raining...

Well, why not run it in the rain? It would get wet and muddy perhaps but there's not much (components) that you couldn't protect from the elements.

I admire the guys who run R/C destroyers in mini-typhoons.

Well after seeing that video, who would not want one - pretty impressive. Are the tigers just as impressive? I could swear I heard the sound of the turret moving. Also, does anyone know if the panther with sound and smoke have the hull correct in that it is better modeled?

I'd love to be able to afford that tank but I have too many other hobbies, RC planes, boats, cars, tennis, and the most expensive of all - a high maintenance gorgeous woman. That said, I bet the heng long can't touch that for sound impression - anyone know?

The sounds from the HL tanks are not the same as the Tamiya tanks, but they aren't bad. Just like with any sound system, it depends on the speaker set-up. I bet that if you put a higher quality speaker into a Hen Long tank and built yourself a sealed speaker box, you could improve the sound quite a bit.

The Heng Long Pershing does have sounds for turret traverse and main gun elevation. How's that? [>:]

Same goes for engine startup, engine shutdown, engine throttling up (when in motion), hull machine gun firing, main gun firing (along with backward recoil action). And it smokes (and stinks). Really love that stink function.

As for sound quality, I have not been able to compare them but I agree with the notion of upgrading the speaker to improve the sound quality.
