Okay, can anyone please attest to whether all S&S versions have this variable speed control as a standard improvement from previous Heng Long offerings? I am finding far too many ads on ebay and some retailers that say smoke and sound version and then 2 speed forward. A couple here have said all S&S versions have the variable speed control that allows the tank to move at a more leisurely pace and scale like performance. Apparently, as others have described, the earlier offerings were either fast or very fast. This wouldn't be a very scale-like performance. Other ads, like the mato ones for example, will list the 10 speed variety. I have already purchased one that says neither. Its just a S&S version according to the box (as told to me by the guy at Raidentech).

So, those of you who have S&S Tigers or Pershings, could you comment on how your tank behaves when given throttle - thanks!

I have a "used" HL Tiger1 S+S that I got from Ebay.

(Tiger 812 Tiki pictures posted) The throttle is quite good although the pivot function can try ones patence when your trying do tight manuvers. Other than that it's good enough for most operations. My HL Tiger ( Tiger 931) with the aftermarket Dual ESC is alot better but it doesn't have sound or smoke functions.

Okay so can you make it go from a barely moving creep smoothy to full throttle (in effect mimicing a ESC) or does it go fast and from the get go and then just faster?

To answer your question My HL Tiger S+S will go slow or crawl to fast and back with a fair degree of relibility.

It's not a ECS but it's damn close.

It's definitly better than some others that I've had.

The circuit boards of a smoke and sound tank are completely different then the earlier ones. The non-smoke boards had 2 speeds, the smoke tanks 8 or 10. There is no in between. However, one can experience different speeds depending on which motors were installed, the slower black capped motors or the original Shentechs.

My 9th SS division Tiger #13 has pretty speed range from a crawl up to max speed in both directions. With some finesse, you can also make gentle turns rather than doing full spins. It is better then I had expected, certainly better then my 1/6th scale Stuart in this regard.

Okay, thanks swath! Some of the ads are pretty inaccurate I suppose. They are probably using some of the text from the previous models. Several of the dealers people have mentioned here, have the smoke and sound listing 2 speeds forward, even if its stated as a new S&S model. So, if the boards are completely different, and that function is accomodated on the board, then all S&S by proxy, would have the new speed functions.

The specification for the HL tiger whit RAUCH&SOUND on the EBAY writes that:

"10 Step Steuerung nahezu proportional!"

If I translated it well, it denotes that, there are 10 speed steps! (slow 2,3,4, high, 6,7,8,9, fast)

I got the upgrade kit, and it works fine. The Tiger is able to move very slow and very fast. The speed is varyable as schutzstaffel wrote.

I have only one question: whereto should I connect the wire of the led of machine-gun.

I made some pictures from the reciver board. Please, someone designate the points, whereto I should blowe on the wires.

the machine gun led has 2 wires .

the 1st wire connect to the top(1st) wire(orange) on the plug see pic.

the 2nd wire (if i remember well [&:]) on the 4th wire from the top .

just weld the 1st wire to the first top wire on the plug ,
the other one just press the machine gun switch and test the 4th or 5th wire from the top(no danger ,it is just a led) .

My next problem is: if the tank is running forward (or backward at any speed) it convulses, and it responds slow to the sender commands, and if I release the button the tank is still runnig for a second. Occasionally if i push the forward "button" (or backward, or spin) at slow the tank doesn't move and the motors roar.

yes , it is tricky to slow turn without stalling ,adding a link on tracks really helps to slow motion,but tend to change track alignment on the rear idler on rocks or obstacle

- if you push 3 seconds on controller , it will turn(or try to turn) for 3 seconds, that is how you got the feeling
that it continues for few seconds(3s) understand ?

maybe you dont charge your battery enaugh ,
if you have a 1700mh with a 400ma charger you should devide 1700 / 400 = 4.5 hours for charge, me i add 0.5 hours more to be fully charged.

Oh yes, quite awhile back. It will be making its first appearance here on the site within a few days. It has come a long way since being described as sporty when I mistakingly chose to show the base coat color for a forum user here. Overall, I am very pleased with it and after a month and a half, nothing has broken on it at all. Regarding the speed control issue on this rather old thread, there seems to be some confusion. Yes the tank has variable speed control which I suppose by definition is a sort of built in ESC. I like the recoil on the Tamiyas - that looks really great and is executed in a nice way. The epileptic seizure our HLs have when doing the fake main gun fire, is probably the worst thing modeled into the tank. It would have been better left out but hey, I have never spent $65 better on any modeling product with this much return.

The cause of convulse was an unit that had contact error.
I agitated it, and the tank responds well and fast to the signals of controller. No convulse!
