Default Work So Far!

just an update on my tiger, Here is a list of some of the things I have done so far,

Changed the pistol port,
Changed the gun mantlet to correct postion,
Made the turret able to traverse 360 degrees,
Changed the commanders hatch to correct postition,
created the drivers slit using my dremel (canadian tire version)
scratch built engine grille covers,
Made hull mudguards well worn and battle damaged,
added metal tracks,
added metal drive wheels,
added metal idlers,
changed antenna to correct position,
made proper vision slits on turret sides,
ground down all the ridiculous looking tools on the hull (see pic) New all metal ones on the way from Germany,
going to be adding new bosch lights this week,
bought 1/16th scale metal buckets as seen in pic(sorry about the quality)

and that's all I can think of now, but I have lots more planned!

Larger pic in my gallery!

Looking great! The earlier Tigers look better to me(which yours is?). Yours is coming along nicely!

Are you going to keep it dark grey?

I'm glad to hear that your tank is still working well! [8D] I ordered one of the "super" versions of the Tiger 1 and I plan to do just what you are doing (if it functions properly). I went ahead and bought metal drive and idler wheels from Mato and a few metal parts from this link:

http://stores.ebay.de/Modellers-Paradise

It is written in German (which I cannot read), but the transactions went smoothly, anyway. [sm=thumbup.gif]

What I want to know is are you planning to grind off the "wooden" box on the front of the hull as well? I think I am going to replace mine with a block of wood.

What paint scheme do you plan to use....are you sticking with gray? I think I will go with gray, since I have to use rattle cans rather than an airbrush.

Can you explain what you did to the pistol port and the vision slits on turret sides? [sm=confused.gif]

Thanks!
Jason

I will post a description for you in a bit Jason, I don't have a lot of time at the moment. Also it will remain gray, but weatherd and such. One question, does anyone know where to find a little steering wheel, I need it for the hatch but can't find one anywhere. Does anyone have a spare one from a Tamiya set or anything? Ofcourse I will be pay!

"Would you knock it wit them negative waves?", remember who said that? HL modeled the tanks as realistic as possible, including their reliability! Buy a spare board, airsoft and smoke unit and your down time will be minimal.

Great job on the Tiger! I'm working on my Pershing right now, just cut off the sand shields and all the accessories on top.

Oddball: We see our role as essentially defensive in nature. While our armies are advancing so fast and everyone's knocking themselves out to be heroes, we are holding ourselves in reserve in case the Krauts mount a counteroffensive which threatens Paris... or maybe even New York. Then we can move in and stop them. But for 1.6 million dollars, we could become heroes for three days.

Crapgame: Hey, Oddball, this is your moment of glory. And you're chickening out!
Oddball: To a New Yorker like you, a hero is some type of weird sandwich, not some nut who takes on three tigers.

As a last resort, you can always get sprue F from Tamiya. It has the hatch and wheel/lock. True, $18.50 plus shipping is a lot of money for a plastic wheel, but it is a small price to pay for a more accurate model.

I will most likely order one for my tank:

Nah, you have to go outside the box sometimes and seek other sources. [sm=thumbup.gif]

Only thing that comes to mind is http://www.bluejacketinc.com/fittings/fittings25.htm
http://www.bluejacketinc.com/fittings/fittings24.htm

If you scroll down on both pages you'll find some handwheels and pumpwheels that may serve your purpose. More later.

I guess if I had one that to use for comparison I could go to the Wal-Mart toy department, buy a little car and rip off the steering wheel.

Whatever works.

But maybe I just don't understand--is the Tiger's hatch wheel/lock very unique to the vehicle? Is it pimped out with jewels on the rim or is it chromed?
Might just have to pay that $18.50 plus shipping if so...

Well, no. No jewels or chrome.....just an expensive parts tree.

I just want it to look like this:

Well, I went a little overboard as usual. [&o] Including shipping, I think I spent about $80.00 on metal parts for the tank. [] I may wait and put most them on my next Tamiya tank and keep the HL Tiger "as is", other than paint, hull/turret modifications, decals and metal drive wheels. I'm not sure yet what I am going to do other than go and buy quality plastic BBs.

I opened up the tank to have a look and to grease the gears, and they seem to be fairly hardy. Unless the metal side braces bend out of shape, I don't foresee the gears stripping in any way.

Are those Excel? Got my Flying Colors Seamless Paintballs today as well. Almost broke on the cardboard target from 3 feet. These are just under 6mm, will see how they do when the 6.04mm barrel is installed.

These are called Cyber Gun. I did not see any others at Wal-Mart that did not have a little bit of flashing on them....these are perfect. [sm=thumbup.gif] They also match the carpet in my house (camouflage), so my wife will not complain about little yellow BBs all through the house.

[] The paintballs do not break easily enough? I was hoping to try some of them, myself.......oh well.

i play paint ball for a living and to make the paintballs more breakable put he paintballs in a plastic bag and put the bag in the bathroom with you when you take a shower. the paintball shell absorbs the moisture and makes it softer. hope it helps

do anyone nows how to change the gear ratio without changing all the gearbox ? (a special gear that you buy somewhere or link?

have notice that on the motor shaft there is a metal gear and i think that maybe could be changed for a smaller one .

will try to find a smaller one to put on the motor shaft .

That may be more of a headache than you want to deal with. [] My first thought was that you could pull the gear boxes out, pull the motors off, pull off the pinion gears on the motor shafts and replace them with two new ones of the same pitch.....but that won't work. First of all, the pinions that are on the motor shafts are pressed on, rather than tightened by a grub screw, so it will be a major pain in the rear end to get them off. [sm=thumbdown.gif]

The second problem is that the distance between the pinions and the first gears of the gear boxes have to remain the same in order to have the right gear mesh. More teeth on the new pinions means that the gears are bigger, which would cause the gears to bind since they would be too close. A smaller pinion with fewer teeth than the original would make the gears too far apart and they would skip or not meet at all.

The only way that you could change those gears would be to somehow get the old pinions off, replace them with new pinions of the same pitch and drill new holes for the motors to attach to in the gear boxes. For that to work, you would probably have to measure the diameter of one of the stock pinions, as well as the diameter of one of the new ones, and drill new holes the measured distance from the center of the original hole, toward the first gear. You might be able to make a slot for one of the motor mount screws that would allow you to slide the motor and pinion toward or away from the first gear, until you got the correct mesh, and then tighten it down (a thin piece of paper between the gears to get the correct mesh). However, it could work loose and cause the gears to misalign.

Hell, I don't know.

My head hurts.

They do make pinion pullers for exactly what you're talking about. I bought one last year and it worked great.

Okay this will have to be the quick post - a full review coming. Have had my tiger a few days. Everything worked very well out of the box and - knock on wood - continues to do so. If something broke on it tomorrow, I would be okay with it. I've messed around, managed to nail my sister in the arm from 10 m or so causing a small welp, and have generally been pissing the family off. In other words, its been great fun and well worth the money. I'm getting a little stripping sound when I do a spin on the grass and wonder if any have had this. I havent heard it inside on carpet. The cool factor is just really nice. I will write more but basically, it has surpassed initial expectations.

Templars83, are you 12 years old?

Either that or these tanks turn you into a pre-teen, which I understand completely. Nonetheless, there is that great harrassment factor inherent in the BB shooting tank.

Also, have not noticed any turning or other problems with the Pershing. This thing is a real beast from the get-go and love the simple disassembly procedure--no tracks to remove.

Gee thanks Harq - no not 12 - just have an annoying sister that needed discipline. Actually, she claimed a "whelp" though none could be actually found. I will tell you this much, to see that they do actually come out the gun a bit faster than I had thought, I had the tank shoot in my general direction and found it to have more velocity than I would have expected.

Golly, I was only kidding.

Glad to hear that the tank has exceeded your initial expectations. Looking forward to reading your full report whenever it comes.

Cheers, mate.
