Default Buying my HL Tiger SS this week..need info

OK guys the time has came at last and I'm ordering my HL Tiger I SS tank this week, outside of getting a secondary battery and metal tracks, what else do you recommend me picking up for the tank? Is the body of the tank made of plastic or metal? Also how many batteries does the transmitter take?

What kind of range do I expect as far as distance from me to the tank?

I'm hoping to have the tank by next week so it's a matter of time and waiting which is going to drive me insane.. and I will have some time before trying it out on the sand!

Ideas I'm open too!

It is all plastic, except for the electronics, of course. The transmitter takes 8 AA batteries and the radio range is as far as you can clearly see the tank, so range is not an issue. I would recommend that you get the "Super" version of the Smoke and Sound Tiger 1. The metal gears, better commander and better battery are worth the extra money and the tank is overall higher quality than even the second generation S&S tanks, IMO. Here are a couple of links that show what I did to mine in order to improve it:

OK I did say this is the one I am buying but the question is what else do I need outside of what I posted.. I'm kinda new to the RC tank world outside of my tiny Tigher I tank I bought two years ago from Radio Shack and my Wally World Panzer IV...

1. Patience, soldering iron, basic electronic skills.
2. How about a peak charger? I'm considering buying a Duratrax Piranha like swathdiver has just to get the most from my battery packs.

3. More 7.2V battery packs. Try NiMH as well as NiCd as they have both pros and cons for each.

4. Some quality 6mm BB's. Discard the ones that come with the tank as they have obvious mold seams and the little nub that remains after they are removed from the mold sprue. They are nothing but trouble. I use Flying Colors premium brand but the list is endless.

So, it is the "Super" version that you plan to buy? There is a regular S&S and then there is the super version with S&S. Either way, the tank comes ready to run, so you do not need to buy anything else. As Harq stated, if you do not have a good battery charger, that would make your life easier.

Thank you both on thats replys, since I've been in the RC Boats for too many years, I have a nice Intellitrac charger that does a great job for me over the past 3-4 years now...
and I do ahve some NiCads that I don't use any more since they seem to not last as long as the Nihms in running, I've upgraded all my ships to run Nihms and that will be what will happen with the tank as well.. I will let you everybody know when I get the tank..not expecting it until this time next week.

I'm buying from Mato Toys.. their Super version is a great deal for the price!

Well, make sure you have a soldering iron with plenty of solder and a thin shank phillips screwdriver! I'd recommend a couple extra smoke units or plan to convert to an aftermarket one like those posted the other day. And of course an extra board. Get some thin sheet styrene and make dust shields inside the hull and covers for the gearboxes to keep grease and dirt from flying around inside and getting on the electronics. This weekend I'll post some pictures of what I do to my Tiger tanks to make their hulls dirt and water resistant.

Thank you for the information, I will take care of the greese shield first and go from there...
