Default Tiger Mid Production sighted

After many weeks I finally found time to finish my project. Annoying things like work [:'(], landscaping the garden [:@] and holidays [8D] kept getting in the way but I am happy with the end result. Just waiting for a set of metal tracks to arrive and I can really give it a testing .

It needed a lot of work and modification to convert to mid production from the early but I do prefer the later variants so there was no other choice but to do it.

Hi

Thanks for all the positive comments guys. In reply to the question about the brand, it is basically a HL with Tamiya wheels and tracks grafted on and fully functional. They have far better detail than the HL ones and the HL ones are very difficult to modify although I have managed to get the double wheels sorted on my other Tiger by turning them in the lathe to look like two separate tyres rather than the fat single one - I have pics if anybody is interested?.

The rest has been extensivley modified to correct all the wrong bits, especially the turret which has been reshaped and the turret stowage bin corrected as well. I did not plan to go this far with it as I was using it to test my detailing skills in 1:16th scale but I was enjoying it so much I just carried on- I am normally a 1:35 scale modeller and do a lot of super detailing. The tools are all white metal but that was the only addon I bought along with the cupola and track hangers. The rest is converted or scratch built including the engine vents (Thanks to Whitewolf for the mesh I used on these, it was perfect).

Next on the bench is my Tamiya King Tiger but I am not leaving HL as an early DAK Tiger 1 conversion is on the cards soon.

The zimmerit was done over a couple of nights as I did one side and left it to dry and then did the other the second night. The technique I use is not too difficult and is reasonably quick plus if you do not like it it can be removed easily before you apply laquer to seal it. I tend to have some music blaring in the background while modelling and this makes things like zimmerit less of a chore as it takes your mind of the repetitive tasks.
