Default Cooling Fan: feedback requested.

[sm=72_72.gif] To those members, who have installed cooling fans(CPU type) and upgraded heatsinks awhile back. What sucsesses have you accomplished, on extending the life of your tanks electronics? I know that the motors and motor power feed circuits(really, the whole board) generates a lot of circuit damaging heat under HEAVY driving loads (turning, steep inclines, mud, etc.).

Also, how much loss of driving time will someone get from a cooling fan(12v-.9amp) that is constantly running? Thanks

I have not used my idea but I have 2 but would also be interested in hearing success stories.....

I am attaching a pentium chip cooling unit, including teh fan to teh HL heat sink. I also might install a fan to blow over, with the flow of teh fan being bisected by the board.

Any suggestions to better my idea would be appreciated. I have not had teh horrible experience of teh smell and shutter... cross my fingers!!!

Go on E-bay in the radio controlled section under toys and hobbies search cooling fan you can use any of them you can just glue or mount it up in front of the board and make it blow the air right accross it.

I am certain that Kabul Tanker and I have the appropiate hardware for the cooling mods. We would just like to hear from the other members who already use this coolng system.[sm=idea.gif][sm=wink_smile.gif]

Hi mate, I have standard laptop fan fitted in the Tiger, bought from a basic electronics shop. Couldnt say if it is working, i have only blown one board and that was because I insist on building my own metal gearboxes (just buy the gear wheels) and one was very tight and she overloaded herself. But I havent had a general failure so perhaps it is working.

MG, I had the same problem when I first rebuilt the gearbox to metal gears. It was in such a bind while running the motors for a short period. Resorted to using a drill motor to turn output shaft while sightly runnnig a fine flat file on spinning gearheads to releave any mesh bind. Spent time on both gear boxes until the output shaft spun freely with finger power. Eventually I lost right forward movement(the side that binded the most when I first started) , but was just recently fixed and with the upcomming cooling modification...[sm=punching.gif][sm=wink_smile.gif]

I fixed it in a similar way, however, in the past i have coated them in grinding paste, then ran them in a drill chuck for an hour ( they really heat up!). Used solvent to remove all the paste and then re greased. Worked a treat!

I used a 1 inch size radio shack fan mounted in a Walker Bulldog. Mounted where the speaker box was on top of the board blowing up, moved speaker back to where the smoker was, as it is removed. Engine sound is in the back now. Also drilled vent holes in bottom of hull, I know a lot of people are big on sealing the hull, but if it aint in water it aint no problem. Small fan draws little power, run time not reduced enough to speak of. Even though its a 12v fan it runs fine on 7.2v's. Oh it was wired in the smoker socket so it comes on on startup, and can be shutoff with the smoker switch if desired. When I get a digi cam Ill post some pics.
