Default Stug conversion started

I have started a stug conversion using my PZ IV chassis. Early on but it is starting to take shape. Basically I removed the turret, hacked away some plastic, and then rebuilt the superstructure using evergreen sheet styrene.

The hatchs have been placed just for effect, and general placement, and will not be used in the conversion, other then the cupola, which will be used.

Lookin' good. Which Pz Iv are you using? If the short gun, would you want to part with it?

Is it going to be an early or late Stug?

I am working off of pictures of an early version, so chances are it is going to look a lot like that.

Email me. I think the gun is a spare at this point.

Great start.Stug 4 is a great looking tank.
I assume that the model you are using is one of the 1/18 scale ones?

Yes it is some 1/18 scale RC tank, great detailing, terrible RC control.

Absolutely. The electronics are all ripped out, and I have Heng Long boards on the shelf that will get installed. They worked great in the T-34 and they should work great in this one as well.

If you don''t have PANZER TRACTS No.8 I'd recommend it. It has a couple good Blueprint drawings
that can be enlarged to your scale

Note on the 21 century Pz IVs...just did a lot of reading to make adjustments and convert mine to different models. I now have a D, E and H model with another due in to become a Befehlswagen with tube antenna and dummy gun. The TC hatch cover is wrong. The one piece, circular hatch came out with the H model. All other Pz IVs had a split hatch for the TC, to include the F1 and F2 models. . Simple job to cut the hatch down the middle, make a hinge and cement both halves in place.

I will have some more today. I added weld lines, and have the superstructure finished. Just working on the cannon and elevation. I cheated and used the cupola from the Panzer III. I built it so it can be popped out though, so if I decide to build the proper one I can add it easy.

OK here are three more pictures. Primed and then spot puttied as I work to completion. The cannon is just a prop as I work on the elevating IR one.

Lookin pretty nice. You gonna leave it in "Last defense" red [>:]

That would actually be an accurate color, as the Germans ran out of paint at the very end.
and fielded a tank or two in red primer. lol

I am not sure yet, what I am doing for paint. Probably gray, but maybe camo. Decisions, decisions.!!!!

Well it went under the airbrush and this is what I came up with. Lots of details left to add, and no washes have been applied yet.

No doubt about that. I'd still be working out how it comes apart, in the time it took you to
rebuild and paint.
Looks very Stug IV like to me. Great job!

Thanks guys.

I don't sleep much. 4 hours a day leaves me extra time for work and hobbies. My wife and kids have found out though, that you don't want to give me any idle time. Once my mind is disengaged I fall asleep immedizzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzz.. Oh sorry. I never watch T.V either.

I added a wash and highlighted some raised items to give the model more depth. I added all the tools back and added a few more details. Here is how it looks now.

Next item to be fined tuned will be the cannon. Then I'll add the electronics and see how good it runs.
