Well I got all the electronics fitted in and had this one running around the back yard with the Pershing and the Tiger. I was pleasantly surprised with the run. It did not throw the track, and was the last tank running. The drive sprocket fell off the tiger, and the Pershing ran out of gas, but this Stug just kept on going. On the grass the solid suspension was not much of a hinderance . THe Heng long electronics worked great allowing slow speed and nice turns. Anyone who has one of these with stock electronics will know a super spin is about all that was possible. Spend the $39 and get the S&S transmitter package, and you can turn one of these into a really good functioning tank.

Does anyone know if these had any sideway travel on the cannon? When I elevate the cannon the disc on the elevating unit forces the bbl a little left or right depending on which way the mechanism is turning. I was going to fix it, but if the prototype has some sideways movement, I'll probably leave it.

The Stugs had very limited left and right main gun movement or traverse. If your Stug can move its gun then its accurate.

The PIII new HL does controle really smooth it's a nivce addition to the HL line.

I thought I could offer some info...but of SEVEN very thorough reference books I have on German armor, every detail is given on alll models of the Sturmgeschütz EXCEPT lateral movement of the gun! I have been in several and the 75mm will traverse about 15-20 degrees left or right. Seems to me, that the earlier Stu III models had more movement to the right than the left. The driver was pretty much an auxilliary gunner, getting it close where the gunner could make the final lay. The longer L 33 gun models had a longer recoil system and could not elevate as high as the shorter L24 gun, but lateral traverse was about the same.

The numbers here: http://www.wwiivehicles.com/germany/...rmgeschutz.asp are 12degrees each side, -10 and +20 elevation for the Stug III A-E, and 10 degrees each side, and varying elevation around -6 to +17 (depending on the gun) for the others. Search for traverse and elevation.

Thanks for the lead darkith. I was really amazed that none of my ref material covered gun traverse limits. I was in a Stu III a few years ago in Germany and it seemed to me that traverse was a bit restricted on the right....maybe the vehicle was damaged. With all the interest in the Sturmgeschütz, I'm going to have to convert one myself. It's a wonder HL or someone hasn't come up with them. Century 21 has the Brumbär, but it's the ridiculous 1;32 scale.
