All my stuff is HL. Not sure about the consumption rate but the proto holds ~35 cc of fluid if needed. Should run for hours, even at high output.

What happens if you accidentally let it run dry? Will it burn out?

Currently, yes it probably will burn out if allowed to run dry since it currently has the HL element. I have yet to install the hardend Nichrome element I am working on.

Nice unit. In the IR world this would be a great way to signal a tank is out. High output for a few seconds when I tank has been put out of action. I think you may have something marketable. Just like everything be cautious. A small group of diehards, does not translate into profitable sales. I used to market custom N scale Canadian train items. Some of the things I thought would sell like hotcakes, lamely sold off, making the projects a time consuming exercise that zapped some enjoyment out of the hobby.

A hobby is supposed to be fun, turning it into a business can ruin it for you if you are not careful.

Just a few words from somebody that has been down that road before. I wouldn't say I would never do it again, but I would be very particulair with what I marketed.

Heng Long,is rumoured to be coming out with an IR battle tank. That is the one reason I am reluctant to invest in an IR system. IF they do, then it would really hurt sales of a cottage industry supplier. For all the flak it takes the Heng Long ESC is awesome for $16.00. If they do the same thing with IR, then how could a guy compete?

HLS????? IF this is Heng Longs, the answer is no. Mato does too good of a job

Thanks for the clarification on its proportional smoke output. I would be interested in some of these as drop-in replacements for my future HL purchases.

I can forsee paying up to $40.00 being no problem at all as long as they exhibit this same quality of course.

The smoke unit would be great to make a tank look like it's taken a serious hit or knocked out completely. I would purchase these smoke units. My Smoke unit in my Panzer III is dead. Actually the motor is fine and everything else looks good. Maybe it is the smoke board or the on off switch for the smoke unit. Don't know for sure.

Screw it all, I like it!!
The only time the smoke would be too much is if your indoors IMO.
And it's proportional as well - how many have you got made so far??
For now, I'd like 2, if they're even close to the video I'll probably order 1 or more later.

Tip O' the hat to ya psccartozzi, looks you might have come across an excellent addition/fix/upgrade/mod - and I don't really see HL improving on their own unit anytime soon (but what do I know??).
Please give a shout if you do follow through with this, you've got the attention of a few "tankers"...
Once a few are out there you may end up in a position of struggling to make enough.

What are you doing posting? You should be hard at work filling orders....
And "smoking" the competition - yea, I know corny, but it was there...

i'd be down for 4 of them. 2 for current tanks, 1 for my crane WIP, and 1 for my future tank.

I'm thinking of bagging this project. Should probably just publish the plans here.

Hey Perry -

Like the product. Great addition to any HL tank. But c'mon, make up your mind Buddy, either make & sell, or share the secret of the "ultimate smoker." Honestly, if you've got the time to make 'em, I think you'd do well selling 'em. I think I've counted well over thirty in the posts on this subject.

pscartozzi I know I want two, and depending on how much you charge there is quite a bit of money waiting for you!

I know I'm lazy and prob wouldnt take the time to create such a smoke masterpeice, but would deff. buy a few.

From one tanker to another, start the production line!!! ... please

Heck do both. Then the guys that can make them will make their own. And the guys that can't or won't you can make some for them. Then everyone is happy....

I think you could sell many many of them to the RC electric plane crowd. The question of a electric smoker comes up VERY OFTEN.

Hey,
I wasn't really building this to sell, it was just something I hacked together. IT's really just the HL smoker element with some of the batting removed and a DC fan. Others on the forum have posted lots of pics of doing this. Ran the element and fan with a few transistors.

Perry,

I tried that once, but maybe I need a skimtic of the wiring because that fan wouldn't even run off of the Heng long board?
But I was trying one of the standard HL smokers did you start with the proportional unit? Any help would be appriciated!

Or if its easier !'ll buy one from you and reverse engineer it!

It will work just the same as the normal smoker-pulse-piston motor, only quieter.
