Hook the computer fan up to one of the motors channels, then you have all the benefits of proportional smoke, without the increased load (+1A) on the motor channels (some people run the whole smoker like that)

But just wondering, won't teh fan go into reverse(from blow to suck) if you reverse the tank while being wired that way? From understanding some diodes and wiring is needed to make the smoke work for both forwards and reverse

I'll have to look at that, I spose you could have some diodes in line and that way it would only work when going forward or you could make it work in only reverse! I just don't like the idea of tapping of one line, that would isolate and one side of the board and add more amp draw to that circuit and we all know that is the weak link to the the Main board

thats what people do with their smokers, add the whole smoker to either of the motor channels -- so one channel draws as much as 1A than the other. I wouldnt do it like that though, my boards are precious

what is?

Oh, and a computer fan simply won't turn if it's supplied power incorrectly (reverse polarity)

With regular smoker - For lots of consistent smoke: cut the element down to 1/3 (scrape it so solder takes to it), remove a little batting, get rid of the stock pulse piston and replace with dc computer fan (less noise/more smoke & proportional). For reliability replace the element with a Nichrome-type one. With the element at 1/3 you can have it near-full of oil and it will still smoke just fine. I will modify one of mine and do a quick guide with pics, like usual

hey wackywheels..where do you get the nichrome element from..? could i get in uk..?
tried modding 2 smoker units and bu**ered em trying to cut down the element..!![:@] got a new proportional one but only had a quick test and would like a bit more smoke..removed extra batting but would like a better element..dunno anything about the resistance or stuff tho..!!
cheers, stuart
