I was just thinking about the cameras that some company --Lionel, I think---designed for model railroad locomotives so you could actually "ride your train around the tracks". I wondered if one of these systems could apply to tanks. I'm not exactly sure how these micro cameras worked, or if they worked that well,--- but mounted in, say, the mantlet of an Airsoft tank, --where the "gunner" would have his sights, -- it would be a neat way to improve "aim". Or for any "tank driver" to get a "real" of the terrain.
Any thoughts on this? I know: too much time on my hands......!

Mini cameras can be found on Ebay (NOT AN ADD...JUST INFO!!!!!!!) they are a lot of fun...I have one in the driver's periscope in my 1;6 Stuart and watching the mini TV screen, it's like driving the tank. A 9 volt battery is all you need to power the camera and my portable TV is also powered by a 9 volt. Radio shack has the hookup stuff. Some guys have them mounted in the turret but I haven't found room yet.

This is a pretty cheap addition. I have one in the mantlet of my Tiger1. A key part would be the RCA to USB converter that allows the TV picture to stream through a computer. This has been an exciting setup as I have a CO2 cannon and laser aiming guide on board. Allows me to sit inside and hunt out in the yard. Im working on TCP/IP protocols now so someone with a web browser can control the tank and watch on their screen anywhere in the world.

I'm not as high tech as Perry, I watch through my tv, camcorder or from the lcd in my Pontiac. Have a camera mounted on top of the mantlet disguised as a searchlight on my Pershing tank. It's also hardwired into the batteries instead of using the 9v. There's some wavy lines because of the lower voltage but it's fine for me for now. This particular camera has infrared capability allowing me to see and drive the tank around in the dark! Lots of fun!

I use the standard cheap little color wireless cameras, it sends its signal to a base that has 2 RCA connectors, then I connect it to this [link=http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?mco=D5A58B21&nplm=TK629LL/A]LCD[/link]
It works great, maybe someday we will have 'buttoned up' battles where you can only use the LCD screen to pilot your tank.
