Default T34/85 almost finished, Tamiya Sherman next.

My T34/85 is just about finished, I need to hook up the smoker lines and add some paint. I Installed all new HL boards and the smoker and I opened up all the hatches, it runs 100% better, still has the same barrel and recoil action (no airsoft). I may add more to it this winter but for now just making it run better and sound better is ok. I have ordered a Tamiya Sherman today and that will be my next project

Hey Beast,
I like it. Can you expound on some of the details? Here's some things I am noticing;
- electronics look different
- flipped the HL board
- oh yeah - has HL elec's
- some metal cupola parts
- figure looks great - like to see it painted. I used a 1:18 'corporal diez' on my SU-100. YHR made a really cool hat for his figure
- antenna moved?
- kept the smoker

And again, thanks for the pic's

Perry

Hey Perry

Electonics are HL and the smoker is also, It's the up-grade you can get from Mato, Added the same fan I have been putting in all my tanks, bought them for $1.50 with heat sinks attached, but removed the sinks.
The metal cupola I got from BYA for $9.00 shipped, It was cheap and a fast way to open that hatch.
The figures are from BYA also $35.00 shipped, a little more money but the only thing I could find at the time. I'm looking for the right colors to paint them right now.
The antenna I did move too, just sliced off the plastic, carved out the inside and drilled and melted the stock brass one in.
Going to make the smoke come out the exhaust like it should.
I have the metal gears and tracks for it but it is still new and only been driven for about ten minutes, so I thought I'd burn up the stock gears and have something to do to it later. (but after the sherman now)
Thanks

T34 overall interior is flat white/white, but I doubt the inside (underside) of the hatch covers were white, or they'd stick out too much.

If you really wanna paint them, then flat white it is

re; the photo with the driver....hope that isn't the final position. The driver sat about 3 feet back with no way to stick out of the hatch.
the foot pedals for brakes were directly under the hatch, so figure legroom back to the seat.

Great looking T-34. Did you use an upgrade kit to redo the electronics?

Nice job.
I am working on a full conversion myself (including airsoft, started it in May) and yesterday I re-assembled the turret together.
Today is test time for the elevation/bb tray mechanism and then I will start posting pictures of the work so far.
The T34 conversion seems to be one of the "favourites" on this forum, maybe because all the german HL tanks need some more arch-enemies to fight with.

note on hatch cover colors....NEVER white on any tank . Always the same color as the outside of the tank, so that an open hatch blends in with the tank. White would wave a flag saying "here I am" !

Thanks everyone for your comments, and the hatch color question. But I was told that my antenna placement was wrong, so does anyone have a picture of the right antenna mounting and location, and does anyone know what that cone is that I put my antenna in? Thanks

Pattoncommander, The driver was placed in that way only because I had him and is only in there when it's on the shelf. But thanks for the right way to set him up, I made that box more for the power switch, but when the driver fit I just left it there, I thought I might add the bottle and make him into the drunken version if I can just to be funny. And yes I did use the Upgrade kit from Mato for the Electronics, it's not real hard but does take time to do, I did wire up something wrong and saw a little smoke come off the board but was able to save it by luck by swapping the part that fried with parts from an old board I'd saved. ( you must have spare boards or parts I keep reading that and it's good advice)

Well first some cool news, my Sherman has been shipped, OK, now I have settled down[sm=spinnyeyes.gif]

First I have found the answer to my own question about the right location for the antenna and the answer is I have it in the correct location, I looked for pictures and found they had it on the opposite side of the running light on the T34 from about 1940s, but the T34/85 in about 1944 it was located on top of the Turret in the place that I put mine (first picture)

The other thing I did was use the extra head and arm to make the driver look a little more natural (second picture) still needs paint.

The third picture is one that shows the antenna on a T34

That solves the antenna location question and am happy to also see where I can place my later model's "ears." My pictures also show various locations, so it comes down to what year you are portraying. Maybe the Chinese or NKA didn't have radios, but I never recalled seeing antennas on the T-34s we saw there. Now, that driver looks like a REAL Russian tanker. When you paint him, don't forget the rosy red cheeks.

Lookin good.

Thanks, Pattoncommander

I sent you a PM about yours, let me know what you think, I may want to ask you some questions about the Sherman when I start it, my other HL tanks are not close in exact accuracy, but because the Sherman is going to cost so much more I'd like to spend more time on making it authenic.

Beast, that commander looks like Uncle Joe Stalin himself in the cupola

You've certainly done some work on the tank itself.I'd looked at the T34 before deciding on the Tiger.I think I'm glad I had the Tiger, the T34 needs such a lot of work to turn it into a decent runner.

It is a lot of work to the electrical, but it runs so much better, the way it originally ran was not much fun, it was to fast and turning was stupid. now it runs just like all the other HLs with the same 7.2 battery and the HL controller, it does not shot any BBs[&o] but it still has the red light at the end of the barrel, the recoil and original sound. I guess I like it more for the quality of the model and I think it's the only soviet 1/16th tank out there.

He does look a little like Stalin, maybe I sould paint him that way and see how it looks, thanks for the idea.

actually the whole interior of the T34 is light blue, kinda like a sky blue (ive been inside one i know, and all the plastic model kits i built say the interior is light blue). And i agree, the driver shouldnt be sticking out of the hatch like that.
I wonder why noone does a T34/76 model. Trumpeter makes them in 1/16 all you need are hen long parts. I really like the 76 more than the 85, kinda looks better. especially the ChTZ model

It's expensive since you need a WSN t34/85, a T34/76 static model from Trumpeteer for the turret and wheels, as well as HL full guts. At least 3 tanks to make one. And if you plan to make it airsoft, is a very very tight fit into the T34/76 turret. It really does require patience, time and some design skills, definitely a step above the usual HL upgrades.

pooka2hot4u, Thanks, for the inside color, and borealis is right, the cost to buy all the tanks needed is a little high, all I wanted was to have a soviet tank to add to my tank group, and drive better then it does out of the box without spending my savings. I have one soviet, only one german and will have three US tanks when the sherman arrives. I would love to have other countries also but like everyone else we will only have what they make[&o]

PapaIron, it is, there cheap to buy RC and you put them together like a static, that's the best part, the RC is not very good, it drives using both controller sticks and is a little too fast, the sounds I hated, but the paint is not bad, all I did is add some rustall to mine and change to HL boards and smoker. It's a tank to have.

Borealis:

Happen to have the T34 static manual laying about? I need to know the sprues for the engine, as I want to have a few engines for static purposes. An Auz buddy was supposed to send me one or two, but he's gone silent, and I'm ~still~ looking for a way to source the engines alone, without buying a kit to 'strip' them from.

Anyone able to help?
