I too had visions of a CAT D9G or something like that.
I'd gut the electronics and measure up it's insides.
Someone on here will measure up HL boards for you and tell you what bits you need, say non S&S boards and transmitter for simplicity, tell you how to wire them up and away you go.
There's plenty of the guys here who've converted non-S&S tanks to S&S so you might get their old boards and transmitter for the right price if you ask nicely.

Well, odds are, if you slow it down, you can quiet it down, and you did say its too fast, right? If you are going to mount something heavier on it (like a pan/tilt camera) you'll want more power too, and the simple way to do both is a motor swap.
If you open it up, compare the motors in it to the oners in your RC10. Same size, then its a 500 class motor. A good choice for hore power/less speed is one of the Integy lathe motors, in 45, 55 or 65 turn range. If its smaller, you'll need to take some measurements for us to see what size it is.
How's that for a start?

Well...
Without knowing the size/type of motor, I don't think anyone can help. There are many sizes from the itty-bitty ones in the X-mods and other micro-cars to the 500's in most 1/10 RC buggies and trucks, and a few even bigger (The old Bruiser/Mountaineer used a 750)
You want our help Calvino, you have to help us. Ger us the motor casing diameter & casing length, shaft diameter, & perhaps spacing & type of the motor mounting bolts would help. I tried a google search, couldn't find the specs.
For anyone hunting, found a non-functional one: craigslist - Baltimore - 409666288
