for best sim try "panzer elite" games made by jo wood
for modern tanks try "battlefield2" and "bf1942" for older tanks made by EA
WWII-Tank-Commander made by reef isnt too bad for pc
"iron warriors" for t72 tanks
also "Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45"
and probally the best game to get is "Company of Heroes "
there are loads out just depends on which games you like most ie FPS or sim games

In the 'Medal of Honor:Allied Assault' series and expansions (Moh:Allied Assault, Breakthrough and Spearhead) you had the chance to drive a stolen King Tiger (Moh and Allied Assault) and a T-34 (Spearhead) in some very funny missions.
There you could destroy entire buildings (with the KT's gun) or engage several German tanks in open field (with the T-34).
But I'm waiting for the upcoming "T-34 vs Tiger"

I play Company of Heroes with a couple of friends, its a RTS genre. I have played RTS for a long time, since C&C and Warcraft. CoH is well built, you don't mine resources like previous rts's, you capture strategic points ( fuel, ammo ), these help fund your war effort and capturing more ground and fighting alot earns you more manpower and army size. You also get to pick the style your army will take, your choice is 3 trees of development, each leading to a different main weapon system ( ex: Defensive leads to 88's, Blitzkrieg leads to Tigers ). Units of note are the mighty Flak 88, the Tiger ace, Sherman Calliope, 105mm Howitzer. I found the best strategy is the defensive, this gives you 88's, you can make pz IV's and Panthers as your armour. I use snipers to extend my 88's sight range and a couple of 50mm AT guns and MG nests to prevent the 88 from being overwhelmed. My tank force is usually 2 Panthers and 2-3 PZ IV's, if there are air strikes I will substitute the PZ IV's with Whirlbelwinds. We typically play as a team against computer AI opponents.

I have that game here for the PC Panzer Commander but I don't know if it will run on the newer pc's with XP and high processor speeds. I bought a pc game called Iron Wolves tried to run it but wouldn't run on anything faster than a 233MHZ

I still liked the operation flash point upgrade. I had 3 copies and ready to net working with my kids when they are bit older.
I have played the latest ARMA, but no good, The original OFP is really cool when you played in mission editor that you make your own games so as many tanks as you like. I specied bought a pent ium duo 3400 for my 200 people vs 200 people in mission editor. eg, 200 your man vs 200-400 computer or net working.

I'm playing the original "Panzer Elite"** by Psygnosis (1999) on my Windows XP ( by choosing "Win 95 Compatibility" option, turning all 3D options and setting resolution to 600X800).
I've managed to bash my way through North Africa, slam my way through Italy and now I get to the "fun" part. Just started the Normansy Campaigns last night. It may be an "old" game----but it can still keep my attention....!
**Not to be confused with the new "Panzer Elite Action" by JoWood....!

Currently I am playing Company of Heros and like it very much.
All time favorite would have to be Close Combat III that came out late 90's. CC3 is great because you can cumulatively build up your forces and upgrade them as the campaign/war progresses. Late in the game, you'll have 100% heavy tanks in your little unit and steamroll the competition--Russians or Germans, both sides are great.

flashpoint rocks!!! the ballistics in that game are dead on. somebody made a mod of great looking tiger. i downloaded a sherman pack and hopped into the tiger and had a "field" day smokin shermans. there has got to be a million add ons for that game, and it lan parties nicely.

I am yet to try those other games, sound fun!
Although not released as a full version yet, World in Conflict does have some 1980's era tanks in it. I've played the demo and it is a spectacular game. However, company of heros looks comparable at the very least, may even be better.

There is an expansion coming out for CoH this fall, it will add British ( priest mobile artillery and fireflies etc) and late german ( JagdPanthers etc ) to the mix.

I tried to load CoH but I didn't meet the graphic requirements....it was funny I had the terrain and could see the weapons fire...but couldn't see any of the units = men, vehicles.
Too bad what I could see looked great...everything was in stealth mode.
Later,
Dennis

Dennis, I can help you with that, email me your pc specs. That would be cpu, motherboard, ram spces ( type and speed like ddr400 ), video card, power supply watts.

Remember the 80's arcade game Battlezone? Had a periscope viewfinder and left and right joysticks to control a futuristic tank. And great vector graphics ala Star Wars arcade game.
