Default Tamiya Gearboxes

Best of the season to you all,
I've been having a close look at the gearboxes on my tamiya sherman and looking at the drive line...The reason is because I'm wanting to add an extra reduction stage to reduce the overall speed of my tank...That means I have to source an extra gear to achieve this ...However, the gearboxes to me look like at one stage they have been 2 speed units with a few unused gears...Am I right in this assesment...and if so that means that I can tke out an unused gear and have that as my extra reduction gear...Of course replacing it with a suitable spacer...What do you think ?.

Looking forward to your replies,

Gigantohawk
