I know that I want a Sherman for my next tank. Can anyone give a suggestion of where to look for one(kit would be fine) with airsoft or easily modded to fire airsoft? Also, does anyone have any suggestions for building a tank from a kit(only built static models and model rockets before)? Unfortunately, I am the only one around here that I know of that runs tanks, and RC in general, so this is the only place I can go for information. Thanks.
Till later, happy tanking.

For 1/16 scale the Tamiya Sherman is the only RC tank out there that I know of and it only comes as a kit, lots of fun to put together but does come at a price, does not shoot airsoft and can with the radio needed cost about 4 to 5 hundred dollars to complete.

Do you have any recommendations of where to buy a kit at(reputable seller and good service)? As far as the radio side goes, I already have that covered(have to love starting with the heli's and planes). As far as setting it up with airsoft, what would be involved(buy parts elsewhere to custom building)? Thanks.

I bought mine off of E-bay from Hongkong cowboy (319.00 + 125.00 to ship) a few guys have done the same and had no problems with him, ships fast (about 6 to 7 days) There is one that you can bid on right now from Canada (last bid was about 230.00,ends soon) and there is a recent post of one new in the box from florida I can find the post if you need it. Don't know if anyone has turned one into an airsoft and it may not have the room to do that.

Don't have the money right now, I tend to find out how much what I want costs, and then save for it. As far as the airsoft goes, I guess that I'll be the experimenter then(no one to battle, so soda cans must die in the place of other tanks). As far as the speed controls go, do the kits come with them, or do you need to buy them separate? As far as the radio gear goes, I have a 7 channel computer radio and numerous receivers courtesy of a far gone heli and several planes(should only need 5 channels I would think). Thanks for the prompt answers. Should be able afford the kit in about a month. Plenty of time to gather photos and information for accurate weathering.

4 channel is all you need and it has everything else, just add the receiver that comes with your TX. If you type in Sherman in the search area you will be fed lots of info on the Sherman, good luck.

To equip your sherman with an airsoft unit you'll need parts from the new VS Tiger I tank in 1/24 scale. The airsoft unit, barrel elevation unit, turret ring and turret rotation unit. All very compact and should easily fit. I've scoped the parts out, and like you haven't bought anything yet. You can get them from Toyeast for minimal cost, less then $60 shipped. Get a spare airsoft unit while you're at it.
While you're saving for the Sherman why don't you pick up a Pershing or Tiger tank in the meantime? Find out if the hobby is something you'll enjoy before spending the big bucks! And don't worry, Nobody who's visited this forum for more then a couple of months owns just one tank anyway!

I already have a VS M1A2 Abrams that is about to get an airsoft fitup(once the parts arrive). Will I enjoy it? I think so, I've had my first tank for less than a month, and I already want one that I can easily upgrade and customize(not much as far as upgrade parts for 1/24 from my searching).
Now if only the batteries for my Abrams were charged right now.

Ok good! Remember that the airsoft unit for the Abrams is different then the Tiger I when you go to order parts for your Sherman project.
