Default Airbrushing

Guys,as I will be new to airbrushing some advice required please. Is it advisable or just "something nice to have" to have variable output pressure on your compressor? Can you get by without or does it make that much difference? Many thanks

Abo.

Its definalty advisable. Its very difficult to airbrush fine camoflage with high pressure so you need to be able to back it down with a regulator. Large compressors come with a regulator. Not sure about the little hobby compressors. I use a giant 30 gallon shop compressor with a regulator.

Keep in mind that things like pressure regulators, moisture traps, pressure gauge etc. can be bought and added in line to any standard compressor output pipe, before connecting the airbrush hose.

I have a compressor without pressure adjustment. It would probably involve less guesswork on my part if I had it regards to thinning paint. Then again, that's 2 things I'd have to learn! It cannot hurt and offers you more options and control.

I have the Tamiya Spray Work Compressor. So far have painted about a dozen tanks and models with it. And judging from everyone's comments, it paints pretty well as is.

Little hobby compressors, even the cheap ebay ones, have regulators and moisture trap... definitely a must have!

larger type compressors you must remember to drain the tank before doing any painting even if you have a moisture trap

I bought a 25 gallon upright standing air compressor at Harbor Freight for $99.99 last summer. If you can buy one like that instead of the small hobby compressors do it. Also, I bought a Harbor Freight airbrush kit for $7.00 and the airbrush works as good as my Badger that I paid $100.00 for and it's easier to adjust and clean.

Once you have all of the stuff, you will enjoy airbrushing and you will want to buy models that you can use your airbrush equipment for.

This tank was my first attempt at airbrushing anything.
