Default 1:16 Schwimmwagen

Today, I received a 1:16 scale, VW 166 Schwimmwagen made by a company named Eduard, which is worth a look. It is a static model, rather than RC (and mine will certainly stay that way), but I bought it to add to my ever-growing WWII collection. The kit is better than I would have expected for just under $50.00, shipped. Included is a decal set, metal photo-etched parts, clear plastic parts (windshield etc.), rubber tires with rubber inner tubes (not inflatable ) and even black masking stickers for covering the non-painted areas before spraying. There really are not very many parts, especially when compared to a tank build and the instructions seem almost painfully simple (Thank Goodness!). It also comes with a color sheet to reference the paint scheme. Overall, I'm pretty impressed. [sm=thumbs_up.gif]

I don't think that I will be able to do much on the building tonight, but I thought that this kit was worth sharing...especially since it is 1:16 scale.

I got mine through Ebay:

I hope to start building tomorrow, but I have the feeling that I will need to wait for the paint to arrive. []

Hi,
I was interested in one of these, until I found the same thing here in the UK is £88 ( about$150). I know things are expensive here, you only have to look at the comments on this forum, but such a price difference is ridiculous.

I've been thinking of getting one of these for some time now. The pics you posted convinced me to buy one. I bought it from the same place you got yours Icecreamslick. Not sure if i will R/C it though. It looks kinda small to squeeze a gearmotor into the tub. Thanks for posting the pictures.

I will be back in Texas with T.A.A. starting this summer, so I will probably see you soon, Nick. I'm sorry but you'll have to place your work of art Schwimmwagen on the opposite side of the field from my model, so people do not compare the two.

Hey Slick, It will be great to have you back. Don't worry about the Schwimmwagen though. LOL! I probably won't be able to get to it till late this year. I have 3 other projects lined up ahead of it. Thanks for the compliment though.

Nick

Hi,
That's great! I just looked on evilbay and was astounded at the asking price of a supposedly "rare" kit. Thanks for the info.

Thanks for showing all the pictures. I just ordered mine today. You can get it here: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...6106&search=Go. Good price!

As for making it RC. I am sure you can fit Losi Micro-T parts in it, I am doing this with my Kubelwagen! Just scrap a Micro-T.

Yes, not only will it be motorized, but it "swims" too. This guy makes true jewelry:

look here for the building report.

If you build it with Styrofoam inside and make a water-proof seal where the upper and lower tubs glue together, I suppose it would float.

That is one of the most awesome conversions that I've seen! [8D] The front wheels act as the rudder.

Just like the real thing! [sm=wink_smile.gif]

As for the subject at hand, I''ve seen these Schwimmers converted to RC by using the Tamiya Kubelwagen''s internals. Not that it offers much in the way of realism since it is not proportional RC. Looks like that is what this German fellow did, at least for the wheels. Those hub nuts look very familar.
