I need help guys what is styrene (sorry for spelling) but what is it called by sides this. I asked in hobby lobby but of course they did not know what i was talking about. I then went to actual model store that built models and yea you guessed it don't know what it is or heard of it. I have seen some plastic type foam board but i didn't think this is the stuff. It was very flexible, i believe they called it foam board. I see that Styrene is used quit often and would like to have some for buildings and possible future builds. As i under stand it it comes in different thicknesses. Now where can I find some and what is another name for it here in the United States. OORAH DEVIL DOGS DO OR DIE.

Evergreen is a brand of styrene. Most local hobby shops have a selection usually on a rotating display and you can get it from our website sponser here at Tower Hobbies. They all different shapes, sizes and thicknesses.

Sheet styrene can be found in any hobby store...look for it hanging on rotating displays or on the wall. It comes in various forms, plain, patterns such as roofing, bricks, sideboards etc etc. and various thickness, so that you can build almost anything with it. A hobby store that doesn't know what it is, isn't much into hobbies. Use Zap a Gap or super glue with it.

Just wanted to add to the above that walmart was selling packets of 6 or 7 small tubes for a dollar per packet, and if you have dollar stores in your area they are also good places to buy the packets of super glue. When you buy them this way it is a cheap source of glue. Also if you use "kicker" and get it in your glue supply,it's better to have messed a small tube than a more exspensive bigger bottle of CA. Styrene, is just the shortened name for polystyrene which is a type of plastic. Most decent hobby stores sell smaller sized sheets (8X10) in a variety of thicknesses, ranging from thinner than a sheet of paper to about 1/4" thick. It is usually sold with both the front and back side being smooth, but there are also many manufacturers that make styrene with patterns that replicate clapboard siding, diamond plate, shingles, tile, etc. Styrene is almost always white in color and is easily glued using plastic solvents or super glue. Beside sheet goods styrene is also sold in extruded shapes such I-beam, angle iron, "T" section, "C" channel, straight strips, tubing and various shaped rod stock.
Other suitable plastics for model building would be butarate (usually dark gray in color), ABS (usually black or off white in color) or sintra which comes in a variety of colors, acrylic or polycarbonate which are both clear. All of these plastics have different characteristics and chemical make-ups, and each is well suited for specific things. Sintra for example is most often used for out door signs, while polycarbonate is used to make bullet proof windows an other nearly indestructable items. Only styrene is readily available at hobby shops, while the others usually require a shopping trip to an actual plastic supplier.
If you go on-line you can look up the 2 biggest suppliers of stryene to the hobby industry Plastruct or Evergreen Styrene to learn more.

PS If you're local Hobby Lobby didn't know what styrene was..........I'd suggest you find a new hobby shop to spend your money at

My local RC shop also did not know what it was. I settled for an overpriced sheet of lexan to build a grease splash guard for my gears. When I got home I checked eBay and there were several auctions for sheet styrene. If you can't find what you need locally, check on the 'bay.
