Default American Armor Spotted

My sons and I saw this tank on our way back from the beach, today. Sand in the camera's shutter caused it not to open when I took these photos, so I had to cut them down a bit to get rid of some black shadows. I believe it is an M60 A3.

Every NG Armor unit has a couple of those old junk piles laying around. The whole M-60 series had the same sickness...just too big, too slow and too high. We have 3 sitting in the museum holding lot, rotting away.

Junk piles??

If you have irritated a bunch of the natives, who happen to have access to AK's and RPD's, those old 'Junk Piles" are mighty sweet to have around. I'd rather have one of those to stand behind than an M-113.

I don't know much about the quality or weaknesses of the M60 tanks, but I agree with splat. They certainly are tanks. Anyway, I always think it is neat to see them in person and I enjoy looking at all of the details that I would have never noticed before I got into this hobby.

NO tank is a junk pile!! It's a part of history ... especially American armor. Sad to hear that from a Vet too. And you work at a museum.

Thanks for the pics icecreamslick.

It is a M-60 A3, I used to drive them for Uncle Sam. Great Tank for its time. Reliable and easy to maintain. A little side note - If you are over 6ft like me you really appreciate its size. The M-1 is light years ahead, but is to small inside for my likeing. Thanks for shareing Icecreamslick.

I never drove them but can easily concur about the size. I am over 6 feet as well and the turret is positively cavernous.

The IDF (Israeli Defense Forces) was using M-60s in a version called Blazer with ERA. So, modified and upgraded as the Israelis often do with American equipment, I would imagine it was a more formidable machine.
