Great pic's steenv, I was there in 2004. It's a great part of the world and the provincial French are such an endearing people.
After visiting most of Normandy it soon became apparent as to how difficult it must have been to wage war in such territory.

All the best,

Gigantohawk.

Thanks for the photos.....I was there a few years ago and it seems people in the Normandy region are the only Frenchies that appreciate us having been there.

Hi Pattoncommander

I agree, it is a little bit strange that they dont look back and appreciate the heavy loss of human lifes during the liberation of France. Well, I guess that you have to be french to understand that Anyway, I am going back to Normandy in 2.5 weeks, and this time I am going to visit among other things, Saint Mare Eglise, where the paratrooper is hanging from the church tower.

As always I will shoot a lot of pictures and post them on my website

Cheers and have a great summer

To gigantohawk

I remember the first time i drove through the landscape "tunnels". The first thing i thought of was how difficult it must have been to fight through the hedehoogs secondly the absolutely beauty of the landscape.
Cant wait to get back this summer[8D]

About 4 years back I had the pleasure of driving around in southend England, and the landscape here is also very beautifull. We rented a open sportscar and had great fund over 3 dayes.

Cheers
Steen

Thanks Steen! Never seen much of what you've posted pictures of. Definitely have to go there someday. How can I convince the wife to go to Bovington and Normandy? [:-]

Simple. Take her & your Platinum Amex to Herrods upon arrival in London & then send her off on a spa holiday for 3+ days! You'll have plenty of time to see the sights on both sides of the channel. Just be sure you make plans for her in Paris so you can visit Saumur, too.

Steen, great photos by the way. No matter what some say, I'd rather have the French as friends any day of the week. Much better food & wine than what the Chinese can offer!!

James, impress on her the value of the historic sights in the area. Stonehenge is ony a hour or so from Bovington, and the whole area is realy beautifull. Being a bagpiper, I enjoyed seeing so many unprocessed bagpipes grazing on the hills. Bovington is an absolute must for anyone with any interest in armor and Battle Day is very impressive..

steenv if you are going back to Normandy then I would recommend at least 2 things to do . One is watch "The Longest Day" film and study the St. Mere Eglise scene. When you arrive at the square with the Church in the top left hand corner, look around you. It's all pretty much the same as it was in the film and probably very much like it was at the time of the invasion. There is also a very good museum next to the square with one Sherman on display.
The second recommendation is to visit Bayeaux. Park your car in the top car park, walk down street, turn right, walk on a bit and then look to your right. The view of the Cathedral is amazing. Then walk up the side of the Cathedral, turn right again and approach the entrance.
When you walk into the Cathedral you will be staggered with its beauty. Even my teenage daughters were struck by its beauty.

Let me know how you get on,

All the best,

Nick.
