omygosh...how could you even consider downgrading a Rolls Royce by installing a Ford part? [X(] You may be on Tamiya Dragon's hit list[:@]

Theres nothing wrong with them as long as you take care, dont run them empty (switch them off if you cant be bothered refilling). My 3 main-use tanks and their smokers are doing fine, I have 3 of the orange-clear type non-proportional.

When they do break, they're easy to fix anyway, a tiny bit of Nichrome wire (cheap!) and a 12v PC fan and you're away again, in near-silence.

To hook it up in a Tamiya just run a switched cable from the battery. Not having a DMD/MFU in my hands I couldnt tell you how to get it to turn on when you start the tank (ignition), but the switched direct to battery method will work fine.

or if you wantto get real expensive, you can hook both the heating element wire and the smoke pump to a reversable ESC and couple it off the throttle input via a Y-cable. this will allow you to generate poportational smoke when you rev the throttle. to get the smoke to pump out on both forward and reverse. you will need to wire it with 2 diodes so that when you go either way, the smoke pump and heating element will see the same polarity either way.

Theyre not meant to smoke much, just like real tanks... unless its a nearly 70 year old non-maintained T-34...

Thats what I'm saying - real tanks dont smoke much, and more at idle than at full rev (the opposite of the proportional smoker)
