This is my first posting on the forums. I usually deal in heli's, but have been a long time fan of tanks. The movie Tank was my favorite as a kid, because of that interest in tanks I got my brother to go armour after he grad'd from West Point. I wanted to build the Tamiya Sherman, but I am getting married in October so the future wife wont approve of spending 500 plus on a toy ( her words), so I was really pumped to hear about HL tanks. I really dig the Tigre. I live in Orlando, FL and have been trying to find the tanks in the states and that is proving difficult.
Can any one verify that this is a HL tank? It is from Banana hobby. It has the same radio and everything with it, plus it has the metal tracks on it.
http://www.bananahobby.com/1637.html
Also, has anyone tried going brushless on tanks? That seems to be the hot thing right now with everything else RC.
If any of this info is else where in the forums please let me know.
Thanks much.

x2. Definitely agree, Bill (RCCommand) is the best in customer service in the US that I've dealt with. With the likelihood of problems with the tanks, you want someone who will answer email.
Nothing wrong with HL tanks, but people do get ones that have problems. I can't justify Tamiya $$ myself, so HL is a great way to get into tanks for me.

Hey Rotor,
Just trade yout T-Rex in and you'll have more than enough for a HL. (she knows you're a heli jocky and still wants to marry you, but thinks the a Tamia is a "TOY"??????)
Welcome aboard and over the edge. The tanks are lots easier to fly than the heli's.

Hahaha. That made me laugh. I wish I had a Trex to trade. Personally I would rather have the Sherman than the Trex!
Thanks for comments.

Welcome aboard rotorneck!
You are aware that you can't have just one tank.
you'll start off with your tiger and then you'll think "that pershing would look nice next to that" then you'll think "I like the look of that new stug III"
and so it goes on and on.......
Best you don't tell the future wife!!!!
regards
Frank

Frank,
I agree. One will not be enuff! The future wife says that as long as I use my money, she doesnt really care..after the wedding.[&o]
October 24 will be here soon. Than after that the tank addiction can take over.
I checked out RCcommand. He is 20 bucks more than banana, but if ya'll say the service is better than I will take your word on that.
Is it worth getting the super edition with the metal tracks, wheels, and gears?

Welcome rotorneck, to the little money pit tank club
you'll know what I mean soon, and congrats on your big day, going on 34 years here and now she understands my addictions and just accepts them
Go with RCCommand, Bill seems to be a good guy and is on here all the time keeping up on our wants and needs, and spend the extra on the super edition, start reading if you already haven't all the mods and fixes these guys have come up with, good luck with your new hobby.

Bill is relatively new on the tank scene, but has really been active here, and proactive in getting as much as he can for us. To me that is DEFINITELY worth a small additional cost. Besides, a company like Banana is unlikely to get down to the "nitty gritty" like Bill has, with Impact metal tracks for instance. Giving Bill business ensures that our options continue to grow in regards to available, fair priced products. Not to mention his interaction with customers.
As to super edition, heck yes it's worth it. I just got started in tanks not long ago, but for some reason have been bitten by the metal bug. Would like an entirely metal suspension setup for my next tank, the HL StuG, and plan to get it all once Bill is able to get his hands on some. If needed, he also had some pretty good prices on NiMh 7.2V batteries, but I'm not sure if he is still selling them, I don't see them listed. Might be worth asking, if you need one. The stock batteries are not that good, and neither is the charger. Bill told me he'd pull those if I didn't want them (I asked). Figure there is no reason for me to pay for shipping of some parts I'm never going to use. At least they will get to someone who might.
Some actual HL Tiger owners might chime in, but my understanding is that some have metal reinforced road wheel suspension mounting systems, and I wonder if the difference in price is based on whether or not they have that.
BTW, Bill

He is more then worth the extra $ 20.00 bucks!Welcome to the best of all the hobbies, you can paint it, add mechanical, trick it out, upgrade the electronics and then after all that you can take it out and battle it!

Go with Bill. He is actually one of us and not just some big money machine company. He actually has an interest in the hobby and wants it to grow.

We have plenty of regular motor options already, brushless and tanks just doesnt really work (needs power/torque down low not RPM/highspeed)

I bet crawler motors would be a good choice for more torque.
Anyone see Mythbusters from last week with the phone books. How about all those tanks!!!!
An APC and a Sheridan finally pull the books apart.

Just looked at both websites:
Bananahobby.com...non-S&S: $68.90 (out of stock...no shipping listed), S&S: $78.90 (+$23.59 shipping), S&S Super: $139.90 (+$26.92 shipping)
Rccommand.com...non-S&S: $65.95, S&S: $72.95, S&S Super: $159 (shipping for all tanks is listed as $15)
If you want the super, bananahobby is cheaper. In all other cases (you don't want the non-S&S, though), rccommand is much cheaper. Given Bill's customer service, which in my experience has been the best I've ever had, I would pay the few extra dollars. You might have to give him a few days, though. I think that he's in the Galveston area and they just got hit by Ike.
