The Sherman is a great tank. The only mods I would do are T-66 tracks for better off road traction, bearings (only if your using metal tracks) and DT's metal elevation arm. You should have lot's of fun with it. One of Tamiya's most trouble free tanks!

The bearings for the road wheels are great to reduce friction and increase battery time, but I think the idler wheel is the single most important upgrade you can make.

It has nothing but plastic on metal there, not even a bushing. So in time the stock idler will begin to wear out and cause track misalignment.
The metal elevation arm is a nice item for all tanks. The stock kit tracks work great and won't tax the gearbox like metal will, but if you do go metal on the tracks you know eventually a metal gearbox is in the future.
Basically the kit is trouble free. Anything you add will increase durability and performance plus just make it look better but the bearings in the road wheels and especially the idler are number one.

recoil install here is what you will be working with
nowyou will flaten out the persihing recoil mount so it is flate as in the pic
now youput the mount on the right side mantlet mount and drill 2 small holes to install the recoil mount
one you have the screws in use 5 min epoxy and fill in the back side of the plastic mount leaving onl the pin hole where it is attaches to the turret mount
then bore out the mantlet so the barrel slides freely in and out
assemble per istructions and your done

Hi Pete,
Thanks for the pm. Getting together for a meet sounds like fun. Things are a bit hectic at work at the moment, but will have to see what we can come up with.
Just got back from 5 days in Bath, Somerset. A well earned mini break and the weather was good too. Rob will probably kill me, I forgot that he lives in Swindon just round the corner from Bath. Not to worry I'm sure we'll all meet up eventually.
Well done with the Sherman mate. You are going to enjoy the build and if you need any help or advice just holler.
Nick.

Sorry Rob,
I was in R+R mode and I clean forgot, however you still aren't that far away. It's easy to eat the miles up in a nice car with good company (Debbie my wife ) and the best rock music known to man i.e. Deep Purple "Made in Japan". Those Gigants of Rock have never been equalled.
Long Live Rock And Roll LOL,
Nick.
