I have a tiger, with a completed lower hull. I have been so busy that I have not finished the turret yet.... well PERFECT TIMING. With the new HL and the new technology, it would be perfect to complete my build.
I have already removed the airsoft from my Tiger. Has anyone tried to transplant the barrel recoil, elevation mech, and the IR system into a tiger?
Firstly I would like to be able to just by the board and accessories and put them in.. BUT if I have to buy a whole tank and shelve it, after gutting it... so be it.
Any advice, info, or has anyone tried this?

Yes I have the Heng Long recoil in a Tiger and a Panther. I modify the unit to snap back on fire and then gear drive return to fully extended. Very simple modification to the travelling block, and reverse the direction of the motor. Just got finished doing the mod to the stug. You can buy the recoils from Mato for about $8.00. Tie an LED into the HL ESC and you have a system that works pretty well. The stock stug firing sequence is out of order, with the light coming on after the bbl recoil. The simple Mods put everything right. Adding a "K" contact to your left stick on the transmitter can then get everything working in harmony. An upward blip on the left stick now creates an LED flash, gun recoil, tank recoil and IR cannon shot all at once.
Recoil gun $8.00
Contact switch $3.00
Superbright LED 3.00
About two hours of time and you are in business.
Also when I had the stug apart I was impressed with the enginerring that has gone into this. Metal bbl, and a real chinese puzzle of a mounting system, but rock solid and unique. Also the muzzle brake is threaded and screws off

The IR system is not up to snuff. It's OK for playing around with a few friends in the back yard, but is not up to the standards of club play. You will need a DBC from Darkith.

I am sorry guys, I meant to take pictures as I did the last upgrade. I am going to order a couple more recoil units from Mato. I'll do a pictorial on what I described above. It is really and easy mod and certainly worth doing.

Here is a diagram of the mods to the Heng Long recoil unit. I used a dremel tool with a rotaty mill to cut down the nubbins on the traveling block. Takes a couple of minutes.
Power is supplied to the motor at all times through the normally closed contact switch. When the bbl is in the extended position the contact is open cutting the power to the gun.
To fire the gun you hook the airsoft fire wire up to the motor. When you give the left stick upward motion, power is supplied to the motor. This moves the gear and frees the traveling block to snap back , allowing the contact switch to close, which then supplies power to the motor so the gun can continue its cycle. Once the gun is in its extended position it contacts the switch which cuts power to the motor, stopping the cycle with the bbl in the extended position.

Like they say, "A picture is worth a thousand words!" Thanks so much for this very clear diagram! I've just ordered a couple of recoil unit from mato too.
