Don's Heng Long Upgrade (So Far)
Hey Folks,
Thought you might enjoy checking out my TIGER 1 Project. It is far from perfect and far from complete. So anyone who is doing or has done a HENG LONG conversion from Early to late model. Here is where I goofed it up.
1. The circular cover over the engine should have been smoothed over.
2. Wrong Engine Grates
3. Wrong Loader's Hatch
4. No circular Turret Ring Guard
5. Turret Roof should be Thicker (40 mm)
6. Should have a late Muzzle Brake
7. Wrong Track Repair cable and Holders
8. Wire Cutters are in the wrong place
9. Headlight Needs to be lower
10. Cuppola to high
11 Wrong Tow Cable hold downs
12. Turret Bin should have the braces sanded off
13. S Mine Bracket plates should have been sanded off
Still alot to do. But I am learning alot as I go, and most of all this is fun!! If you guys spot anything else please let me know.

The barrel could be corrected, slits in the pistol ports & the turret lifting lugs are mushroomed at the end.
Not trying to take anything away from your great work just wanted to help!

Not grey, dunkelgelb or RAL 7028, your base color in extinguisher. Dunkelgrau was standard until February '43. Looks like but cannot tell for sure you have small rear idler wheel, single monocular site in mantlet. There were 2 40mm roofs, a 2 piece and 1 piece. Both used King Tiger loader's hatch. I think it was around May '44 that they got the grenade launcher in the turret roof too.

Don, your Tiger looks GREAT!!!!! I hope mine turns out as well as yours! As for myself, as long as I am close and happy with my work, who cares. Thanks for sharing and by pointing out what you think is missing/wrong, you have helped me!

It does look great especially if this is your first. I could point out a few shortfalls but what fun is that?Half of the fun is researching and looking at pictures, figuring out how you want to represent it. You know this thing isn't done, right. I play with onr for months, then move to another and rebuild the first one for months.
I would say though, Make the barrel the right length. For a Tiger, the gun makes the tank. Should get thqt right

Hey Perry,
Thanks for the advise. You know that gun is giving me some worry, as it has the recoil in it. I got the entire turret from TANK ZONE in the UK.
Maybe it is supposed to be recoiled until I get it powered up. Still waiting the new reciever and Xmitter to come in.
Oh and I want to share what I neglected or flat out did not research far enough so that others can learn and do it right the first time.
I've found some other items I goofed. The shovel is pointed the wrong way.
But If I may brag a bit. Some of the details are dead on. I totally reworked the starter plate, and it is now exactly correct for the late Tiger. I added the sockets on the turret roof for the hoist. The hull extensions are notched (Boy was that a nightmare!)
The decals are set into the Zimmerit (That is a trick!) I added the barrel drain holes. So for a first tank I am rather pleased, but next time...... Unknown to the wife there will be another TIGER soon..hehehe

Nope Frank,
I fell down that slope and still sliding...... Even the 20 years I was on submarines I loved tanks. Then to be on one in the National Guard, pushed me over the edge.
Then to find this forum and my Heng Long Tigers!! Wow!!!

I've been building RC ships for a long time. I've got a 1/144th scale RC Bismarck, its 69in long. Functioning searchlights, funnel, etc. Then I found the HL tanks and ............I cant get enough. I dont know what it is about German WWII equipment, but I really seem to like it alot. I also cant wait to the SHERMAN comes out!! Torpedochief, you Tiger looks great.
