Nitroassasin came over last night with his high end chronograph to test my tank's airsoft guns. I've started to use prometheus (6.03 inner barrels (before I was using madbull 6.03mm inner barrels). we were testing both 0.20g and 0.12g bbs. We were getting values as hight as 199fps for the 0.20g bbs and 238fps for the 0.12g bbs. Before, to get an idea of a gun's power I would use what I call "the cardboard box test" where I would see if the gun I put together could penetrate it
I already knew which of my tanks had powerful guns. I've tried a few new techniques over the last week which has worked on increasing the probability that the gun will fire hard (upgrading an airsoft gun is as much of an art form as it is science. I think at this power level we will be able to fire and break paintballs at 50+ feet. I think I've even discovered how to make the longer barrel tanks work well with minimal loss if power ( the shorter the inner barrel (minimum length I think would be around 7cms) the more power you will get) This was tested on my Jadgtiger where my inner barrel is about 9cm long and my outer barrel is close to 30cm. The trick is to have a thin brass sleeve the fits just inside the outer barrel but also allows the inner barrel to slide in (outer diameter of the inner barrel is 11/32") I am going to try this technique on my tiger and kingtiger. Right now I am using inner barrels that are almost as long as the outer barrel.

Schenlonco, mine is a F1 Shooting Chrony Beta model with light kit and defuser, I have it mounted on a Bushnell Spotting scope tripod.
It's mainly used for my firearms and mod'd airgun testing but it's great for testing the tanks as well..
Here's a pic of it.

Well if it wasn't for you and your early airsoft trials and you providing me with my first tight-bore barrel I would not be where I am on my gun's performances. I still think 250fps with a 0.12gbb is possible. Now that would make for a real killer on the battle field. Thanks again

thomasjohnmurphy, I need to look over your threads as my stock gun is WEAK!! I can barely knock over a soda can at point blanck range. Theres a good hardware store nearby with a large selection of springs, would a stronger spring help?

what tank do you have? Its not a foregone conclusion that you will get the same results as I get. There are 101 things that factor into an airsoft mod to get optimal performance, Nitroassassin's thread shows some of the basic things you can do the increase the gun's power. There are a number of things that can be done to increase the chances of getting the get gun possible.

TJM is 100% correct.. Every gun will vary to a degree.. There's more to just jamming a spring inside of it and hoping for the best.. Best thing to do is check out my thread and start there. It's a good starting point and I'm sure you'll be very happy with the results you'll get.. When you shoot it after the mods the power difference will seem dramatic to you over the stock wimpy gun.

Just read the thread, question, could you just superglue the pink part(breech) to the barrel? If I add the aftermarket spring, nuts and washers only(no new barrel) would that increase fps alot over stock?

I have an Ace Hardware down the road that has a large selection of springs. You gave the dimensions of the spring I need, but is there anything else I need to know when selecting a spring? Also, while looking at airsoft gun upgrade videos on YouTube , some guys just stretched there springs. I guess that this would only be a temporary fix? Also, where the nylon nuts you used 1/2 dia.? Thank you for the help. As soon as I get my Pershing, Im going to teardown my Tigers turret. Im moding the gun and adding a light to the ammo compartment, so my glow BB's glow. I've already added a LED machine gun to the 4volt section,so I dont know if I should add an ammo light also. It might be too much draw. What do you guys think?

yes the nuts were 1/2"
Stretching the spring is a bad idea.. wont last long before the spring sets back to it's original length.. If you change the spring to the one we mentioned it will be alot better than trying to stretch the stock spring which the springrate is alot less. Just make sure you lubricate the piston seal properly before you assemble it.. If you're not sure about the nuts, bring the piston along with you and make sure the nuts fit inside properly without too much play or too much friction.

I picked up new springs, nylon nuts, washers etc for the upgrade. Finding the right spring was interesting. Even springs of the same dimensions have different tension levels. Im really not sure if I got the right thing. If anyone knows an exact part number let me know please.
