Hey I'm buildig another Tiger!
I know I know say it ain't so! Anyway while looking through A MODELER'S GUIDE TO THE TIGER TANK I noted a picture on page 29.
This picture shows that the engine grates featured two seperate and different covers. We all know about the photo etch covers we get but that is only part of the story.
Best part is that the others covers can be duplicated with screen material. The type you make screen doors out of!
I used the vinyl type. This is not only a great detail part but also keeps more dirt out of the Insides.

I know what you're talking about. Vinyl screen material is pretty tight and will keep the larger dirt out, just like what Tamiya supplies in their M26 Pershing kit.
I would install it after the tank is painted, that way it can stay black.
