On a Tiger, Do the numbers Matter?
Been thinking about adding numbers to the side of a HL Tiger......"that is" with the stock decal sheet that came with it. I'm thinking that the numbers do matter, I know that. But with the supplied numbers is there a configuration that would never be?
Just using the supplied numbers....
Like
381
18
83
etc
Best,

381 was an unlikely number! That would denote the 3rd Kompanie, 8th Zug (platoon) and 1st tank. Most companies had 4 or 5 platoons, not 8!
A Heavy Tiger Battalion had 2 or 3 Companies, each with 4 platoons with 4-5 tanks each.
The SS regiments were numbered differently as they were attached to larger units, like Tiki. Browse through www.tiif.de and see how they were numbered.

Thanks Swathy.....I had a feeling you would respond on this. Thanks for the clarification, I just didn't want to get dinged for numbers that were just plain wrong.

I think Heng Long Decals "Stickers" are for the 503. I just got a copy of THE COMBAT HISTORY OF GERMAN TIGER BATTALION 503. Page 205 shows the decal layout of Tiger 313 complete with the two National insignia on the storage box.

Thanks Ern......great links.
So in reality......if I just put the number 18 on it, i'm good. It seems from reading the info, that they went away from the numbers for safety reasons....interesting history!
Thanks Everyone

I would suggest you find a picture of the tank you want it to represnt and paint and number the tank to match then you can't go wrong
