Tamiya Tank Commander Figures
Hi all,
Last year I did a thread on painting figures using acrylic paints and water colors. That "how to" thread featured Tamiya's Pershing driver in wet weather gear, and two different DAK officers from Tamiya's static DAK Tiger I. Well I've just completed a few more Tamiya figures for a friend so I thought I would share.
Feedback and criticism not only welcome, but encouraged.
Thanks!

streetsquid,
I must say, I do it find it mystifying that one could find anything more interesting than sand blowing in from AZ, but your tips on using health safe acrylic paints and water colors for models is good stuff. Thank you. (Why: the wife/kids will no longer be complaining about the cancer causing paint & smelly fumes originating from a model studio and stinking up the family home. Seemly, to people like pattoncommander and the others endorsing lead based China painted items, I suppose it would come as a shock that not everyone wishes to die young leaving a good looking corpse behind, as in why else would any 19 year old trooper want to drive a Pershing in Korea. Better a grunt in the mud than work in a moving target. Now calm down all, just funning with a tough old retired army warrant officer, and he has heard it before, at least a million times. With total adult supervision from a Tamiya USA winning & IPMS 1/135 modeler friend, here is an image of work in progress for my Tamiya Pz4 panzer commander using Tamiya health safer acrylic paints and professional artist water based colors (plus a peak at the paint curing on the Tamiya Pz4 build without tracks and RC gear installed).

Mr. Squid, your work amazes me...I can appriciate the acrylics but I perfer the oil based enamels, I just can't seem to paint with acrylics; call me old fashioned. Looks like those comanders are ready to kick some Allied butt...to bad cause I am an Allied man and believe in my "heavy" Tamiya Pershing.

Thanks torpedocheif (Don),
Kind of you to say. Working in 1/16th scale makes faces easier. I've done a few hundred figures in 1/35th and these Tamiya figures seem to have some pretty decent "molded in" detail to work with, and that can make all the difference.

John,
Well put about acrylics and water colors. I started using them years ago when my kids were very small (todlers) and have stuck with them ever since.
Your figure looks amazing, is it Verlinden? You've also done a beautiful job on the PzIV

9.7 (Nascardad88),
Those tank commanders looked liked they were ready to kick some allied butt because they were, and they did! Including your "Allied Heavy" Pershing (LOL)
Thanks for the kind words Joseph. If you ever want to experiment, or learn how to use acrylics come on by the house and I'll spend some time with you.

Hi,
Your figure work is master class stuff and you have some really lucky club members who get to add those T/Cs to their tank cupolas. That figure is a Verlinden 120mm kit. And thank you for the kind words on the Pz. I have been working on it off and on for ten months now, so I might be seeing the light at the end of the tunnel now. Hope it isn't an Easy 8, though.[]

"very nice...i love your panzer 4....was it a hard build?i just bought the kit from AAF Museum..."
Response:
You will really like your new kit. I do not want to "jack" this tank commander figure work thread, but the Tamiya Pz4 is a fun kit to build with no apparent issues at this point in my project.
Visit here for some of my work in progress build images and some tips: http://rctankhq.com/panzerforum/index.php?topic=448.75
I will post a full build profile when the model is rc setup and completed.
Thank you for the positive feedback.
