bill's reduction gear
to bill,
hows the speed of your new reduction gear box? is it more realistic to tiger I's speed?
cuz am planning ordering from you again.. but my bro will be doing the ordering for he owe me in shooting range contest.. =)
just want to know some info of your new reduction gearbox.
thanks

The new design reduction gearboxes have about a 30% reduction in speed over the stock gearboxes - more quiet and lots more torque.

RE: bill's reduction gear
does Bill have different speed reduction gears other than the 3:1 reduction unit. You will need Speed 400 motors with the 3:1 unit to give it a more realistic speed (and lots of power)

thanks bill.
@thomas,
so any site where i could get the 400 motor?

thanks bill.

Bill,
Do these new transmissions use the steel gears? If not, will this be an option later on?
Thanks,
Dan

The ones on our site now are metal gears. We'll be adding reduction gearboxes with steel gears soon (actually expected to have them by now but have had a couple of delays getting the steel gears back in stock).

I can tell you guys these gearboxes are awesome. Since I have one of the first sets of STEEL geared reduction boxes from Bill. They are quiet , powerfull and much closer in scale to a Tiger I. Sorry Bill, i'm gettin as bad as bubba. couldn't keep my mouth shut. LOL

@ bill
nice... so your new reduction gearbox doesnt need 400 speed motor.. nice nice nice..
ty very much for the info..

RE: bill's reduction gear
If someone can post the tooth count of each gear I'll add it to the Gear Ratio Calculator. Anyone interested in this Excel file can PM me with your e-mail address and I'll send it.
The Tiger with White Capped Suntech motors moves at nearly scale speed. In the old days (2003-2006) most Tigers had black capped motors which moved the Tiger at about 2.5mph which was about 1mph faster then scale speed.

RE: bill's reduction gear
with bills new reduction boxes the final output shaft speed with white cap motors is 170 rpm and stock speed for a white cap gearbox is 268 rpm

RE: bill's reduction gear
Certainly slower then stock but would be realistic as a maximum off-road speed. Either way the torque will be appreciated. Maybe Bill can post the tooth count so we can put his gearbox in the Gearbox Calculator excel file?

RE: bill's reduction gear
the new gearbox turns faster than the asiatam 3:1 and is faster than Bills old 3:1 that was 70 rpm the new box turns 2/3 the stock speed

RE: bill's reduction gear
Cool...so are the motors different between Asiatam and Bill's old gearboxes versus the new one? I would think that if the reduction is the same, the only way to get a faster (or slower) final drive speed is to change the motors. I suppose the other difference might be reducing significant friction points (proper gear alignment, bearings instead of bushings, etc).
Sounds like a really good setup, just curious about the differences. Also, these gears are made of steel, right?

RE: bill's reduction gear
the asiatam use 5 gears and bills new box uses 4 gears only its not the motors that are differant its the gear ratio that is corrected to give the proper speed
there are a few metals left but the nex bunch is steel gear only

RE: bill's reduction gear
Bubba, so are you saying that it is unnecessary to change the motors with the steel geared 3:1 gearboxes? I was going to order the plain steel gears to avoid messing with changing motors and such, but will definately get them when they come in if they do not run as slow as the metal 3:1 that I have seen video of.

RE: bill's reduction gear
Looking at Bill's gearboxes on his website it looks like he's replaced the 45/15 tooth gear with another 53/15. Can anyone confirm this?
This would give a modest reduction in speed and more torque. Switching to an 8T pinion would put the reduction in the mid 50s range.
It's been a while since visiting your website Bill, it looks great! When my recreation fund gets funding I know right where to go now!
