New crystals
Here is a state side supplier of 27 Mhz FM crystals that work with Heng long tanks. I have tested these and they work fine, You need the 27 Mhz FM F type crystals, and he has 12 different channels available. (Look for the Japan Futaba crystal set on the web page) Some of these of course duplicate the HL crystals. Also order them by the frequency not the channel number, A channel 1 in HL might be a channel 6 in these, so just because you have channels 1-4 in a Heng Long crystals doesn't mean you just order 5-12 in these.
I think he is selling these for about $7.50 a channel

RE: New crystals
Cool...thanks. Always good to have some options.
Just to add the reference in the thread, here's HL's frequency break down:
1) 27.145
2) 27.195
3) 27.095
4) 27.550

RE: New crystals
27.550 was reserved for Federal use last time I checked the FCC website. There are only 6 channels legally available for use in the 27MHz band for RC in the US (and I believe Canada adapted those regs as well)
Vendors may sell those crystals, but they aren't legally responsible if you use them - the FCC do not allow you to replace the Tx Crystal as far as I understand their regs - you must have all transmitter modifications carried out by a FCC licenced radio tech.
Something to keep in mind before you get caught jamming up CB radio channels, and get fined $$$$$....

RE: New crystals
Given the output power on these TX's versus the power on a CB (most of which are vehicle mounted), I'm not worried about stepping on a CBsignal. Quite the opposite actually.

RE: New crystals
yep...good to know, though...means I should stay away from roads and such if I want to use all 12 crystals. That keeps me from stepping on them and them on me!

RE: New crystals
Used 600-8507 as it looks like Radio Shack number and gave me the owner's manual on Radio Shack's website. The part number is 60-8507, thanks!

RE: New crystals
I'd be cautious with these. I tried some 27 Mhz FM crystals for Xmods and none of them worked. It matters what type of crystal you have I found out. F type is what you want. The same frequency in an S type crystal will not work.

RE: New crystals
No in FM crystals there are S and F type crystals. My first order with Sport crystals I received the same FM frequencies in an "S" type crystal and they did not work. I had to send them back and get them replaced with the "F" type. I guess the crystals can have a different impedence, and this counts. As I mentioned I bought these Xmod crystals and none of them worked, much like the "S" crystals made by Sport crystal did not work.
You must get the "F" type. F stands for Futaba I think.

Learned something new today, had no idea! Guess I got lucky when I bought the Red Hawks and tested them out. Thanks for trying Nomobux, you've saved others from making this error and that's what the forums are about, sharing information.

Ya, join the club, been there, done that.
That is the beauty of these forums. Learn and share to either help some, or prevent others from making the same mistakes. For the record I have tried the Sport Crystal 27 Mhz FM, "F" type crystals and they all work.
