Patton Museum trip this Saturday
Well, I am definately going to the 60th Anniversary event at the museum this Saturday. If anyone else is making the trip and wants to meet up shoot me a PM or email. Also, if you have a build going and need pics or close up photos of anything let me know and I will get them for you. Sounds like a good time

RE: Patton Museum trip this Saturday
Ern,
I hope you take lots of pics and share them with us. If I had more notice of the anniversary, I would surely have planned a trip myself. I'm not as close as you guys, but I could have made it in a days drive. Oh well, maybe next year. Thanks for the heads up andI do hope you will share some photos. As far as the Patton museum not having a KT. I have a pic of and M88A1 towing one from the paint shop on Ft Knox. It says the Army Ordance Museum transfered it from their collection in 91. Maybe they just have it it in storage not open to the public. If they do, I sure hope you'll be able to see it. Happy hunting.

Hey Ern! I'll be there also! Looks to be a GOOD Open House. This will only be the third time I've been able to get there since my wife and I retired from the military and each previous timeseemslike I'vebeen 'in a hurry' and I didn't get to look at all I wanted to.
THIS time I have all the time I want for close inspection of everything! I've been an armor enthuast since I was in the 6th grade in the mid-60s and now enjoy runn'in'em in our horse pen (lots of LOOSE dirt!)
Of all the tanks I've seen there, I always feltl 'intimidated' when I'm standed by the King Tiger!!!For over20 years in the militaryI wasa 'Heavy Construction Equipment Operator' (and Superivisor) so I'm VERY COMFORTABLE around or operating very large equipment (dozers, scrapers, cranes, etc.), but stand beside such a HUGE war machine, knowing it was an ENEMY at one time, believe me, makes a manfeel extremely 'small'. I can only imagine how horrible it would be to see THAT monster lumbering toward your position when you only have an M1 rifle (which I collect) or even one of those tiny 2.75 rocket launchers!!! It's MASSIVE!!!!!
We'll have a GREAT TIME THERE, hope to see ya there Ern!!! Mike (MSgt ret.)

Last year we got as close as 4 hours away but ran out of time and low on cash. That was when fuel was highest!
Ernie, if you could shoot the Stuarts, Lees/Grants and Shermans that would be appreciated. Particularly interested in the foundry marks and casting numbers seen all over the tanks.
There's a KT inside on display last time I checked. They do have a Tiger H1 too. Tiger 712 of the sPz.Abt. 501 which is in England.
The PZIII should be of interest to the guys too. It's an old F model that was upgraded and was captured in Normandy. It's running now and will probably take part in the festivities.
Have a great time and a safe trip fellas!

I thought Panther F was going to be there also but when I emailed him yesterday evening he replied that something came up this weekend so he's not going to be able to make it.

They do have that one Panther with the experimental running gear but I've never paid much attention to it because it was only 'experimental'. I've got a few books on Panthers that show pictures of thatone-of-a-kind model and the detailssayit usesthe same roadwheels as the KT but I've never looked closely at it. The Patton Museum restored it to running condition a few years ago so maybe they'll fire it up and take it outside for the 60th.
I always been pressed for timewhile there before, but THIS TIME I'm taking my time and looking around! AND I again will be AWED being in the presence of THEKING!!

Awesome time and hundreds of pictures! The reenactors were great and had lots of good stuff and vehicles and the mock battle even included a couple strafing runs by a P41 Mustang. My camera died right as I was got to the museum interior and was taking pictures of the Panther and KT but I think I got them covered. I borrowed my nephews camera for some inside shots but the flash wasn't as good so we'll see. Will post some when I get them sorted out...

Museum and everything there was great! Finally got to see their M3 Lee. Didn't take pics inside museum as you are too close with bad lighting. Ern, I think the plane was a P51 Mustang not a P41. My only wish would be for more vehicles in the reenacting. I will let Ern post pics from the event.

I had a GREAT TIME TOO!!! The 'battle' was pretty good but later after they got the Stuarts & Shermans back in their parking spots, I heard the museum curator tell the tank crews to shoot more tomorrow in the Sunday 'battle' because they wanted to get rid of all the blanks.
I was also very shocked to find out that this is probably the last Patton Museum Open House because the museum is going to move to Fort Benning in a couple of years... I'm going to try to get back there one more time maybe next year to see the tanks (my favorite KT) one more time before they move too far away. I'm gonna miss'em...

Well, RCU has a limit on how many pics you can upload in the "Gallery", so Icreated a photobucket account and put my pics in a folder there. I will be adding more when I get my nephews camera card [like I said, mine died inside and the 12-15 tanks outside the museum are on his camera. Here'sa link to the pics and a couple samples. Let me know if it doesn't work..
Well, it looks like you need a photobucket account to view the folder. I created a guest password, so enter username EHUDSON80 and the guest password is RCUNIVERSE

Oh, and Panther F... I saw her first!
