Biginner tank building HELP
Ill keep it short. I'm interested in building a tank from scratch but I'm new at RC building and i dont know where to start. I'm fairly certain on the body of the vehicle, and maybe the track construction. However, when i comes to the motors, receivers, transmitters and so on. I'm at a loss of what to get, which to buy, how to attach components and where to get the best parts at the lowest prices. Yes, I will want the tracks to be able to move independantly, yes, I will want the turret to pivot/angle up and down. I will eventually put in either a beebee or paintball gun. Anything to help get me on my way, to help stiffle the confusion would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Tom.
Thanks
Tom.

RE: Biginner tank building HELP
Tom:
For " build-it-yourself " and BB/paintball capability, your best bet is here: www.rctankcombat.com
You ~can~ put 6mm BB units into the 1/16 Hen Long and Tamiya units, but you may run afoul of the law regarding projectile weapons (read up on the airsoft regs for more info)
From what I understand, most of the Hen Long units are now sold with I/R and not even toy-class BB units (some countries were getting antsy about toys firing projectiles, and prohibiting the HL tank imports)
First thing to ask would be: what scale are you looking at (or how big you want it to be?) the biggest Tamiya tank, the Leopard 2A6 kit, has these dimensions:
Height: 186mm / 7.323 inches
Rear turret to gun tip: 688mm / 27.089 inches
Width: 237mm / 9.331 inches
Weight (fully loaded): 4750g / 10 pounds, 7.5 ounces.

You'd have a devil of a time BB/paintballing it though, all the electronics are in the turret!
