Default old tamiya

hey guys, first post here, been reccomended from another forum.

recently me and a couple of mates have started work on a tamiya 1/16 leapord a4 tank. it uses a single motor, double clutch design similar to what i imagine full size tanks use, single speed transmission.

it was quite old when we started work and many of the turret details have been lost. yesterday we managed to get the majority of the hull details on it though as well as the second track the week before.

it went for its first run yesterday after installing a tamiya teu 101bk esc [the stock system was simply a forward/reverse switch] and it ran very well. unfortunatly it seems the track 'connectors' are not holding up the best as we had a few come off. seeing as we onloy have minimal spares [to the count of 4 i beleive] i think it would be a good idea to try and find a suitable spare for when its needed. after some internet searching i found thiswww.backyardarmor.com/Elite%20Armor%20Tamiya%20Tank%20Accessories.htmwhich had a set of metal tracks for the modern tamiya leapord a6, would this fit the older a4? or failing that are there any tracks that would? i haven't measured the tracks yet but i will next week.

anyway, here are some pics so far:

Backyard Armour has had it's issues with Customers lately. Might be best to search out threads on Backyard Armor and then make your decision. Those particular tracks look a lot like Pershing tracks. IF they are you have suppliers in the UK that can probably get them for you at the most resonable cost. WelshDragon Models and Militarymight are two good vendors

Hi

The Leo 2a6 tracks will not fit as they are a couple of mm wider and have different sized end connectors which mean the sprockets do not engage properly. I have one of these old leopards and am planning a set of the metal tracks when funds allow but in the meantime I use a set (and a half) of the HL Pershing tracks as they are pretty much the same and very robust. The HL ones can be picked up pretty cheaply lots of places.

cheers
