Default Scratch Builder Dream Projects

As an "offshoot" of Rex's Scratch Builder thread, what have you guys got planned or "hope some day to build" ...whether from scratch or as a major kitbash. Mine are:

M-10 and M-36 Tank Destoryers
Jagdtiger with apropriate hull extension
Tiger w steel wheels
Various Sherman versions.....hurry up HL/Mato
Finish my Hetzer, Jagdpanzer IV's, and the Stuart

And of course....as we all do.........I dream of the day I will find that IMAI Elefant......in pristine, unbuilt condition........at some guy's yard sale....for $100 ...Yeah right..........I know.... only in my dreams

I've always wondered if I could get away with a 1/1 King Tiger out of plywood.

Take the Mato Sherman chassis, Tamiya welded hull and the resin M36 turret to make a true M36B1.

My M36B1. I avoid interiors like the plague, but sometimes you can't avoid it. This is a static model. Note the duckbills on the individual resin tracks. What a pain that was.

Don't forget the fantasy category, "tanks that never were". I submit ..........The Shermgeschutz.

I have an E10 on the drawing board. We'll see if I can fit it all inside. No traverse and all micro stuff will be used. I'm also cheating by building it in 1/15th scale.

Rex,
I'm new here but I recently went to the Patton tank museum in Kentucky and saw what would have been the real "Shermgeshutze" The T-28 here are some photos (hope they upload). Might make a good project for someone who is ambitious.

1/16 Mk IV (or V) & A7V will be my next armor builds once I finish (or grow tired of) the water-borne projects that I've been focusing on.

Shark.......
That really would be a project! It amazes me that something that big and heavy was ever considered.......along with the Maus and E-100. If ya built two, you could always convert them into skate boards.

Would like to do a PZIII H(t) for service in Nord Afrika and one of the 3 Stug III Ds of Sonderverband 288 which also saw service in Egypt and Libya. Would also like to complete another PZIII N and 3 more Tiger H1s into Initial Production trim, takes a lot of work to get those babies done! Don't get me started on Sherman variants! Ohh, M3 Scout car and CCKW would be cool too! Dreams, dreams, dreams...

My impossible dream is to win the lottery, buy a huge piece of suitable property, and build a battle site that covered an acre. It would be split up into North Africa sector. Italian Sector. France, Germany, a Pacific Island, (for my Stuart.....and give me an excuse to build a Japanese tank). The Philipines, Burma.............sheeeesh, the list never ends. Maybe I'll need two acres.

And a lake, with a landing beach for my LCM......LST? And a river with a pontoon bridge across the Rhine next to the bridge at Remagen.

I think I need my medication now.

Rex: I keep buying lottery tickets so I can build a conference center with a one acre battleground in the middle and upper seating all around, with lighting control (night fights). Of course it has a world class AFV hobby shop in it too. This way I won't have to contend with weeds that FRAG battles every year and everything can be left in place, not hauled out everytime. You can come do all the finish work for all the battle scenes..........I'll be sure there is a lake included. PS: We can share my meds !

Me-109 Jagdfleiger: Good start on your 1/6th Renault Ft-17. Is it to be static or RC? How do you plan to make the treads?

Nice model! I like the background of your photo too. I assume it is 1:1 scale Arizona desert landscape (I used to live in Mesa). I really want to do some kind of a scenic background for my photos. Photographing stuff on a tan sheet of paper or on a table top lacks something. A realistic background, without a lot of detail that distracts from the model, is terrific. I believe my stuff would look better, and less like a toy, on dirt, or sand, or whatever. You have given me an idea.......I gotta build me a sandbox.

Why not? My motto is.........."It's never too late to have a happy childhood".

If I were to have the time, funding and ability I'd scratch build a P-1000 in 1/16th scale.

The Ft-17 is going to be RC, I got the Electronics stripped out of a HL tiger and the I will be using the treads fromTiger (2 sets) for starters until I get some made, im still working out ideas for them

OK.....now I'm confused. Was there really an open topped tank destroyer based on the HVSS Sherman? If so, then I've wasted a lot of time and could have made one like yours. Great looking model BTW........Panzerpaul

No there was not a real version of this model, but the Tamiya HVSS is the only game in town so you use what you can get. Once the new Mato Sherman gets released I may be able to modify to a VVSS. This model does run very nice and is an excellent battle tank.

Yeap. It would be a biggun for sure! According to my scale calculator it would be around 7 feet in length, two feet tall, and two feet wide. I'd probably build it out of aluminum and power it with 1/4 scale guts. It's just a dream for now, I don't have the equipment or funding to start such a project. But, it's always nice to have an ambition for "some day".
