Default VS Tanks

I'm looking at getting some 1/24 (IR) VsTanks for my sons and I but I have a few questions about them.

1. I'm not looking for anything super fancy for us, but are these tanks of a fairly decent quality?

2. Do I need to buy different model tanks to have them fight each other with the infrared (i.e. only one M1A1, one T72, etc)?

3. Do they use standard 27MHz crystals (I have a bunch around form RTRs.

4. Are there any models that is should look for or not buy (I'm looking to get them from Tower Hobbies)?

5. Is there another manufacturer that makes a better IR tank that I should look at instead?

Thanks in advance for any info and advice!!

1. I'm not looking for anything super fancy for us, but are these tanks of a fairly decent quality? I have 5. for example my m1a1 vs t-72 and a late tiger vs sherman. I love them both.

2. Do I need to buy different model tanks to have them fight each other with the infrared (i.e. only one M1A1, one T72, etc)? sound like a good idea

I own 5 VsTanks and must say they are of the highest quality. Any of them can fight the others, so feel free to buy 4 of the same model if that's what you want. The crystals are proprietary as far as I know, but they have around 15 available. The only word of caution is that these are highly detailed models with lots of bits that will break off. I have come to expect the tiny detail parts to be lost when I let the neighborhood kids join the battle. If you plan on use oj carpet, do not get the T-72. It's one of their best, but the rubber tracks grip too well and come right off the wheels. I also suggest buying 8 AA nimh batteries for each tank for longer runs and huge savings. Alkalines last about 2hrs.

1, very high qualty great tanks

2. Do I need to buy different model tanks to have them fight each other with the infrared (i.e. only one M1A1, one T72, etc)?
2, you can use any tanks against each other even the same just make sure they have different channel crystal #'s

3. Do they use standard 27MHz crystals (I have a bunch around form RTRs.
3,Yes i used traxxas and radiuo shack x mod crystals also

4. Are there any models that is should look for or not buy (I'm looking to get them from Tower Hobbies)?
4, 1/24 scale these are most popular and most available Unimax FOV makes 1/24 tanks ir they supposed to be nice but they are hard to get and i did hear they only shoot each other from about 10FT indoors wich is a big turn off...and VS sells hop up and spare parts also.

5. Is there another manufacturer that makes a better IR tank that I should look at instead?
5, nope not enless you want to spend a lot of $$ on 1/16 scale or buy cheaper heng long tanks but they break down a lot so for kids and durability stick with VS

Hope this helps

1. The VS tanks are very good tanks. I have four of them, and have yet to encounter any problems with any of them. *knock on wood*
2. You do not need to buy different tanks (ex. Sherman vs Tiger). Two Tigers can battle each other, just makes sure that the tanks you buy have different frequencies.
3. They use standard 27mhz crystals although I'm not sure if you can use aftermarket crystals (I've only used the VS tank crystals)
4. All the different models are fairly equal. Although I did have a little problem with my Tiger occasionally throwing off a track when I do a hard turn on uneven surface.
5. There's not much selection in the 1/24th scale. The only other 1/24 scale RC IR-capable tanks I know are the Forces of Valor tanks. STAY AWAY FROM HENG LONG 1/24 TANKS.

Thanks for all the helpful info guys! I did read somewhere else too that you aren't supposed to run them on carpet because of the tracks coming off. Is this only really an issue with the T-72s, or do they all do that?

Thanks again!

The T-72 is especially bad about throwing tracks on carpet, but they all will on occasion. The way to eliminate that is to buy the plastic tracks with them. They are individually linked and enhance performance in every category other than climbing.

Is there one set that works for all the tanks, or individual part #s for each tank? I looked on Tower, but they only list one set of plastic tracks and it says it's just for the M1A1.

Are the Hard Treads and Plastic Treads listed on Toyeast the same thing (as opposed to soft treads)? Are they what I would want then for carpet, and would the new tread set solve the T-72 track throwing issue on carpet?
