Great, Hal! I predict in a few years we will have two levels of combat at meets. One will be the way we do it now. The other will be a two or three man tank crew, commander, driver, and gunner, each controling their respective areas. CO will direct, driver will see out his vision slots, and gunner will see from his periscope. Should make combat very realistic.
Where did you get the equipment? I saw it about 3 years ago, but it was about the price of it's weight in gold. Way too expensive then. I am sure the price has come down.

I have a couple of tanks with onboard video. A completely different perspective and one I really like. Trouble has always been the portability of the video monitor. That head set looks like the answer. Have you got a link to a source for that.?

I have a couple tanks with onboard cameras as well and I suggest that you build 1 tank and try it first. It's really disorienting. It's a cool idea but the 'situational awareness' aspect is lost. Just driving can be a chore and expect yourself to get stuck a lot, drive of cliffs, etc. I think with the limited visibility, a tank could lay in ambush hidden in some trees for an hour or two before someone could find him.
Might be cool though. I sure like the idea.

My 11 year old son and I took a cheaper approach to this. Raidentech(I got lucky and had no problems) had some enexpensive spy cams ($29.00 per) that we got. Then on e-bay we got these video adapters that could plug into our laptops. The whole set up is such it fits into the carry bags for the laptops. Adhesive backed velcro and the cams and 9 volt batteries stay on the tanks. The cams have four different signal settings so no interference iisues on the two cams. Range is 75-100 ft. aslong as no major objects in between the cam and reciever. Loads of fun. If my work ever picks up my next goal would be to mount the cam in the tanks to get the multi view perspective mentioned.

EQU that is used is expensive - roughly USD 600 in total.<div>Glasses + cam + receiver and transmitter. Main cost glasses take.</div><div>
</div><div>+1 to goldminer, we are thinking about the same thing. + It depends again upon the budget U R ready to spent.</div><div>+ 1 to YHR. Absolutely different perspective of driving. You must practice first without cam and know at least how your tank goes and operate with closed eyes with your joisticks and then get to cam-driving technics (imho)...</div>

Hi!
and Happy new year to all!
On 1:16th scale models I think you cannot reach a full immersion FPV (first person view), on big scale tanks you can use a full immersion FPV with a camera mounted on the commander cupola with tilt and pan and head motion capture to move the camera with your head movement.
I think I'm the first who applied it on a 1:6th scale tank and hope that others will do the same.

As an alternative idea, for old tanks, it is possible to install a fixed camera on the mantlet, it can be used as a sight. The switching from one cam to the other can be made with a free RC channel
