First, avert any young or sensitive eyes. The "quality" (lack of) shown below may cause nightmares.

Second, I can't explain why I spent this much time on this. I like tinkering, that's the only reason I can come up with. It's a disease.

I knew the RX18 FETs can use cooling, so why not go overboard? I had even more grandiose plans to be honest. I was going to route the hot air out through the back, ala the real deal, however figuring out how to mate the upper and lower hulls together, in a roughly air-tight setup, with wires passing through, that I could access easily, was beyond what I could feasibly implement here. Maybe I should do liquid cooling? lol.

Here are three, plus a link to the video of it in operation. (not on a functional model at this point, just testing the upper hull. Not like there would be much to see otherwise.)



Above are the airboxes, windowed at the bottom to allow both sets of passages to feed air. I believe these are Asiatam pieces (got them from rccommand, as I did everything else). It was either these or try and convert the stock ones, and I figured these would end up cleaner. Certainly quicker. Don't tell anyone, but I believe many (including these) are incorrectly made, the StuG III photos I've seen show the length-wise center divider not evenly splitting the centerline of the air intake. But I digress.



Here is the underside of the hull, with the intake box "cover" in place, with fan. She ain't pretty, but it's solid. And there isn't a waft of hot hull-air getting in there. The fan is very near directly over the FET's.



Here is roughly how I'm going to mount the RX18. I need to get 4-40 internal threaded standoffs so that I can put screws in from the top. I'm sure by then I'll think I have an even better idea.

Finally, here is a link to the terrible video of me testing that it actually works. Pay no mind to the background noise, that would be the dishwasher. Might as well mute it, the fan noise is almost imperceptible even with your ear right against it.

How about a peltier chip?liquid cooling would take up alot of space,not to mention the time it would take to find a small pump, make a radiator and if the pump seal where to leak ?

Looks like a fun mod. I know what you mean about doing things to levels you dont really need just for the sake of doing them all too well.

Any more cooling really isn't necessary. I think just taking the plastic cover off would help tremendously. Best cure for board blowouts3:1 gearboxes.

But liquid cooling would use a radiator, which could be made functional just like the real thing! Fans, radiator, hoses, etc. Agreed though, way more complex than I'm willing to tackle.

I do have the 3:1 Asiatam gearboxes. Weren't originally planned, but just ended up there.
