RX-18 Question
#1
Is there a difference between the airsoft 18's and the IR 18's? I am currently upgrading my PzIII airsoft to HL IR with thier new plug-n-play recoil system and I just can't get it to work right.
Everything works (recoil, flash, IR, turret, machine gun, elevation, etc) the way I have it wired and when I trigger the switch on the recoil unit, it all works in order. When I use the left stick to fire, it all goes off at once, not waiting for the barrel to retract and trigger the switch. Also, when I hit the Y button at the bottom, the flash, IR, cannon sound and hull recoil goes off, but not the barrel recoil. In the time it take using the left stick to recoil the barrel 1 cycle, the IR, flash, hull recoil and cannon sound go off 3x's. Obviously this is not acceptable.
I know you guys do a mod to the rx-18 to stop the hull recoil and to fire aftermarket IR systems with the left stick, but this OEM system goes in wire for wire and I used my KV-1 as a wiring guide. Any ideas?

An RX 18 is an RX 18. You should be able to get everything to function.
I typically strip all the heng long wiring off the gun and then just rewire using wiring logic I have acquired for these things. I use the smoker jack to supply constant power to the gun, and the airsoft gun wire to start the recoil action. A contact switch is attached to the recoil action to stop and start the recoil. The airsoft gun wire is used to energize this contact switch( Wire attached to the middle contact) The negative wire from the smoker jack is routed through the contacts on the switch and to the gun motor
Power to the Flash LED is supplied from the airsoft negative wire(I think it is blue ) through a resistor
I then add a contact switch on the left stick controller to perform the same fucntion as the K button on the transmitter. Left stick up momentarily energizes the blue wire. This starts the recoil, flashes the LED, and away it goes

Well, the good news is I get to keep the better sounding RX-18, bad news is now I'm really stuck. My KV-1 doesn't even have a switch, just some strips of metal, so placement of the 3 wires was trial and error. Realistically, the K button should not trigger the flash or IR, just the hull recoil and sound. Black wire from recoil motor was presoldered to the top post of the switch. The other 2 wires take the other legs and are in the only order that works when the switch is triggered. Where I stand at the moment is the K button, left stick and the micro switch all trigger the flash and IR when only the microswitch should.
Does anyone else have the new HL recoil unit from Phil?

I bought some proper contact switches that I use on all my recoil mods. Because I have a tried and true method, I can't really comment much about the stock Heng Long operation. I run mine through a DBC, so I get everything happening all at once , Gun Recoil, flash, IR shot and hull recoil(DBC makes this optional)

Quick question for clarification, what is the ''new'' recoil unit? Is it simply the unit with the mounting pins on each side?

Yes Bill, that's the one. Looks exactly like the airsoft gun.
