Well I set myself on Fire
So here I am putting the what seems like miles of weld lines on the turret of my King Tiger. I'm using my Opti-visor with the 12X loop.
Outside the mail truck pulls up, so I flip the visor to the back of my head and go to get the mail. It was a nice today. Sunny, 74, clear sky. So I'm at the mail box looking over the junk mail, bills and whatever else, when I see my neighbor waving at me. I wave back. He waves again and this time with both arms.
It was then I smelled something burning. I'm confused. Then the neighbor begins running toward me. About the time he shouts "You're on fire!" I saw a slight hint of smoke rise above my head. Then the back of my neck became very very warm. It was then I understood that I was on fire.
I tore off the visor and the shirt in one sweep, and stood shaking as I watched my favorite polo shirt smolder.
I suffered no injury, and the only thing we can think of was the lens of the 12X loop caught the sun just right. I know what all thise ants feel like now!!

No injury at all......except my pride.
King Tiger is looking good so far. Just about to finish the weld lines on the turret. Then on to the upper hull. A little texture, a few more etched parts, paint and we roll!

Ummmm.....so what do you do for an encore? Parasail in a brown feathered hang glider over the Nearsighted Hunters Club of West Screwbum, Alabama?
Boys and girls, this is a good lesson. Now you know why you should ALWAYS practice safety in the work place. Work safety and preparation for such eventualities is of paramount importance. Our good friend Torps came within an ace of serious injury. This is why I always have some liquid at hand in case a fire does start. Of course, it's usually in a bottle marked "Stella", but it's the thought and fore planning that is the point here.

Matt,
Wow once was bad enough, but twice? Hope you weren't driving down the Highway. Speaking of being related, here's my story of the ungraceful. I was cutting my grass, pulling my mower backwards ( not a good idea) Stepped on a softball size rock lining the garden and slipped and fellbackwards ( yep you guessed it) and pulled the Running mower over my right foot. I managed to fillet my big toe ( lost the top knuckle) and cut the next two toes over. Long story short. Wear steel toed boots when woking in the yard and don't walk backwards.

Some how its worse injuring yourself enjoying a hobby. Heres a classic idiot move on my part. Using a dremel cut off wheel. One more piece to cut, I don't need safety glasses for this last piece. When those wheels shatter at 30,000 rpm, they shatter! When the fragments embed into the cornea, they have to be drilled out. (yes, drilled) Not fun. Then, after a week of healing,a nice corneal abrasion to smooth out the scar tissue. Four months later I still see "specks" from the scar tissue that will never be as clear as it was. ALWAYS WEAR EYE PROTECTION. Regards, JZ

1sgt and J z,
Those are horrible stories and not funny at all!!!
At Least Don's tale ended up with no harm but a hurt pride! Wish I could ask if everything turned out alright, but apparently losing body parts and being severely scarred puts an end to that!
But, glad you two are alive and well.
P.S. I know what your going through, J Z. Unfortunately, mine eventually scarred over completely and irreversible.

Not to worry healed completely The only difference is my right shoe needs to be a 1/2 size smaller JUSt kidding. Believe the me, ribbing I got at work was worse then the injury.
