Default IR Motion sensor triggered Battle system

Hi guys. I just had another project i just thought up and was wondering if anyone would know what i need to make it work.

first i want to trigger a DBC battle cuircit with a IR motion sensing Trigger for the lack of knowing what the term would be.
Second I want the Battle cuircit to continue firing every 3-5 seconds until it is either disabled or the target moves out of a fixed field of fire.
I have the 21st Century /german halftrack with the Pak 40 and I have just the Pak 40 by it slf.
I want it to work completely on its own. Thus needing a Triggering system.
Can anyone help me figure out what i need and how to go about it.
I plan on using just a basic simple DBC, but agian it needs to be triggered by IR motion.

Hey Greg,

I've been searching to do something similar. I'm attempting to build a Goliath tank buster that will incorporates a continuous ir signal or automatically go off once its in the vicinity of the opposing tank. Still in the works (as in on paper) but I found  the simplest means would be to use a photocells/photo resistors.
Wish I could be of help, but I haven't begun my project just yet.

Have a look at the HEAT club website, they have one that seems to work. You could also get in touch with Tankhobby about his ultrasonic trigger and battle circuit.

I was thinking along the same lines. i have Nicks battle system in my Denix 88. I was going to use one of his battle systems or a DBC. I dont know if either can be activated with out the use of a TX/RX function. i will find out though. i still think the hardest part will be a reliable triggering system. I was also just looking at model RailRoad proxsimity sensors. this may be an option also. the trigger really does not need to be directly near the gun. You can just run long enough leads back too the control system.

Nicks circuit just needs a simple push-to-make trigger (or a relay). I had some success with it last summer, but there was a lot of electrical noise from the HL turret traverse I was using to rotate the AT gun with - Version 2.0 will use separate batteries for the motor and battle circuit [8D]
If you want to add a hobby grade TX to trigger it, you will need his add-on board. not sure how you would hook it up to HL electronics (maybe use the motor channels to drive relays?)

My actuall intent was to turn this system on and walk away. I want it to work on it's own. More like a sentry. The gun will be gaurding a specific field of fire. It is not my intention to make it RC. Just want an autonimous system. That is why i want some type of triggering unit. Then the battle system takes over until the vehicle is killed or the gun is killed. All on it's own.

Check Nick's website - he has a video of his automated ultrasonic system in action

Here is one place where you can get the ultra sonic sensor for this project!

Thanks for all the help guys. I was just thinking about a pressure actuated switch plate. As a Vehicle or tank moves on to the plate,it activates the gun. Being in a direct line of fire say on a bridge the tank has simply nowhere to run accept forward or retreat. The same set up can be used to dissable the gun to completely capture the objective. the tank just has to defeat the gun then he can keep it deactivated by parking on a second switch plate located on the gun side of the objective. Sounds easy enough. LOL I think i'll try that method first. the big question is how to get the pad to activate the battle system. i suppose it would just be like pushing the firering on the TX.

There are door entry detectors, like at Radio Shack, that beep when you enter. There's a beam that signals when it's broken, you would need one with a relay or output signal. There are kits you can buy or maybe even Radio Shack has one. There are many ways to trigger something, the trick is to identify your best application. I use an ultrasonic detector for indoors, it works outside but just false triggers from wind, heat, mice etc.

I have a 21st Century panther I rigged up with the ultrasonic detector and 555 timers that repeatedly triggers the battle circuit to fire at two second intervals for about 10 seconds. It's a stand alone "bunker". I plan on adding the timers to the Pak40 setup I have, whenever I get time.

I tried Ir detectors, the motion detection type with no success. Most are engineered to detect humans and the tanks do not give off the same infrared signal, although sometimes it did work, but only rarely. Another idea I had but have not tested is using one of the electronic pressure sensors. You can connect a plaible rubber hose to it, when the tank runs over the hose it will create a pressure that the sensor can use to trigger a device. This can be snaked along a path and if it works with a long length of hose may be a great method.

Hi Nick, long time no see. The idea of the pressure sensor line is a good idea also. I dont really want to have to build a system for the gun to traverse, just cover a fixed point. that is why I was thinking of building a pressure pad switch. When a vehicle runs over it it triggers the gun. The gun will have a fixed target are. Trip the trigger Boom your dead. Thats why I want the gun to fire as many rounds as possible. 3- 5 I think would be good. That would kill most light vehicles. The heavies I'm saving for my 88 which will be a nasty suprise if they happen to get past my Pak 40.And that is RC'ed so I will be able to cover a much wider field of fire. And i have a few upgrades planned for that also.. This is the cool kind of projects I like to do. Just don't have any electronics background.

I think i'm leaning towards the pressure sensitive pad type trigger. These can be made in any shape or size. Not much too them. Plus it would be hard too tell where it is. <div>

Hi Gregg,

I know exactly what you are talking about. The "land mine" IR emitter is fantastic idea. We have had them at Danville and you will see them for youself in action when you come down in April for the AAF Tank Museums Extravaganza. I just hope you remember where they are located and don't find them the "Hardway". We have had both pressure sensitive and motion sensitive mines on the field and they add a new dimension to the battlefield.

Here is a link for the landmine..... http://heatarmor.com/joomla/index.ph...=159&Itemid=29

The are products of the HEAT Armor group and they are a very creative group of gentlemen. You will be glad to meet them in a few weeks and see all the facinating toys at Danville. It is truly a big sandbox for full grown kids.
