I came across this video of a builder who concealed the TBU, pretty gosh darn neat. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wERy9RvLqtA it was done by grompix1

Yeah it was a really nice job, But most clubs do not allow any modification of the Apple. Besides a commander would never have his head sticking out in a battle anyway.

That makes sense. Even in that guys build thread, he replaced the IR sensors with less sensitive ones. For that reason alone is why it wouldn't be allowed. But then again....whose to say someone doesn't do that with the original TBU....that would be so shady.

Hi Tony,
There are always grumbling and rumors of "special" TBU apples since some do not seem to take hit as easily as others do. At Danville they are given a very simple and basic inspection/test to verify that they take a hit in the four sides. Many of us often wonder what would happen if we put the apples in a hat and randomly picked them out for battles. The the more rigid and specific RCAN rules were relaxed there a few years back and we only test about half the functions that we used to. I embraced those rules since the keep the field more level but they were time consuming and involved. Some guys use lower apples and others had SUPER fast rotating turrets. Most say they have the fast turret rotations to counteract the Fan and Sweep shooters. I did see a very nice job of building the TBU into a Pershing commander a while back. Very nice work.
Bob
