I have been trying to figure out a way to do this also. On Ebay, I saw a 1/6 metal linked belt of 5.56mm ammo, and thought that maybe it could pass for .50 cal ammo in 1/16 scale. I bought a set last week, but it hasn't gotten to me, yet. I'll let you know what it looks like in relation to a .50 cal mg. from the Tamiya Pershing, when it gets here.

I found a thread about it on a 1/6 board. The buyer didn't like the accuracy of it as bought, but went through a lot of effort to correct the problems he found. Here is the link to that:

I wonder if there's a women's watch band that would look and function like a 50cal belt link? You know, those stretchy metal watch bands with individual links?

I got the metal 5.56 linked ammo belts in the mail today. I'm disappointed that they're a little too long to fit the feed ramp or ammo boxes of the Tamiya .50 cal mg. In addition to that, the links are kind of too big and clunky-looking, and there seems to be too much space between individual rounds. I do not have the patience (or the eyesight) to modify each of the individual pieces as the gentleman on the 1/6 forum did.

I have a 1/16 Swift Boat kit that has a twin .50 mount on top, and wanted a really nice set of ammo belts (because they're so visible up there). I will use these for it, but I wouldn't use them for our tanks. Here is the link to the PCF kit:
