Default Today's Electronic Lesson

I learned something new today. I took Tiger 313 out in the yard to see what the range was on the Xmitter for the working TC.

The range is much further than the range of the radio for the tank. As a matter of fact it is all the way up one block and part way down the other.

Guess how I learned that? Did you know that the remotes and recievers for car locks are coded? Did you know that if they are not coded they will search for codes by operating what ever code they happen on till they find the correct code?

So when I operated the Tank Commander three car alarms in the neighbor hood went off. Two sets of head lights flashed. One car started and at least six garage doors became really confused.

Ever so quietly I went back in and read the instructions for the remote and sure enough there was a warning about just that risk. It also told me how to code the reciever and Xmitter, which took about 30 seconds to do.

So if you go this route be sure to read the directions.

Well Don,

At least this time, you didn't set yourself on fire

Cheers,

You've stumbled on a truth exploited by insurgents in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Pretty entertaining, though, when done like you did. Just keep it out of the hands of kids (big ones, too...I'd be out doing this at random times just for kicks and giggles [8D]).

That's what I call open source!

Makes me want to return to mechanical locks...[]
