Went to the Commisary on Base today. Looking around the video section I found a boxed set called ARMOR FORCE. It is 5 CDs, and includes some documentries I've never even heard of.
Father's Day came early!!
Disc 1 Panthers. Not the German type but the American Panther unit in the Ardennes in 1944. Some details you will not find in any book or other show. The actual people who were there narrate German and American.
Disc 2 A tour of the armor museum at Fort Knox. It includes some footage from the 70s of most of the tanks running.
Disc 3 Pattons War Just incredible.
Disc 4 Tank Manufacture Shows a Grant being built from raw steel to rolling off the line.
Disc 5 The Abrams Story
The box is metal embossed with tanks. Just to cool! And only $14.95

Don,Thats a great find youhave there.By the way,is there still a Navy base at Charleston,SC.? When I first reported for duty aboard ship she was in drydock there, after a med cruise that ended with her having a damaged prop due to one of her lcvp`s crashing into it.As a result I and the rest of the crew
were bunked for 2 1/2 months from Feb. to Apr. of 1953 onboard a floating barracks. All because the Navy decided since she was in drydock anyway
for the prop replacement why not go ahead and replace the original steam plant with a new steam turbine, which they did. That entailed a lot of work,
including removal of the funnel. We were not allowed to go aboard until she was floated again.
Charleston S.C. was the best liberty any swabbie could get,as the people down there were very friendly to servicemen, unlike Great Lakes or Norfolk,VA.
They would go out of thier way to accommodate you,for instance if you ran out of gas, they would help you out.One time I had borrowed a civilians car and
with his permission was driving it with three other swabbies onto one of the beaches there, when it suddenly became mired in the soft ,wet sand.We
couldn`t believe it when from one of the homes on the beachfront comes a guy with two long 12 ' planks and says "After you fella`s dig under the back tires and push the car onto the planks, when she starts to reverse give her the gun,and return my planks, please,`cause this happens all the time." I have
never forgotten Charlston,S.C. and I hope it never changes. After all repairs were completed and test runs were made, we picked up a battalion of Marines
and were heading to Korea when we were recalled outside the Panama Canal due to a truce agreement..

Hey Sailor!
I was stationed down here while serving on USS RAY SSN 653, then at NAVSUBTORPFAC. All we have now is the Nuclear Power School.
They took two old FBMs cut the centers out and let the Nukes play with the reactors.
Yep Jeff, this is like beyond amazing. I doubt the Bulge Documentry was filmed later than 1950, so all the key players were still around.
I learned so much in that one disc. It also is a very honest account of thier advance into Germany. They flat out say. "We were out gunned and out trained. Only thing we had was more of everything."
I'm going to see if I can get a few more copies as this is a really great bit of Ref. just like you say.
I'm going to watch the Fort Know Show again! Right now
Awsome!

Chief,
I'm headed to Ft Gordon tomorrow for my monthly haircut. Think I'll look in the PX to see if they have the same thing, sounds great. As a side note, I'll be wearing a US Air Force ball cap. My son is halfway thru AF BT so I said I would wear it in support of his service. I obviousley, normally wear a US Army cap, but for now it's Air Force all the way.

I sure will Hal!
1Stg we got some really great goings on here. My youngest will be going to the Naval Academy. He said, "Dad I guess you will have to salute me now."
I said. "Sure, every time you want the car keys you come up and ask for that salute."

Epitaph is on there. Of Ice and Steel is being re-formatted and it goes up next. Tiger will also be on there, followed by Storm Front.

BMan I am hoping for a November release. Having a few issues over content with the publisher. You see I make it a goal to never use not even a mild swear in my books. I don't think you need them, and they take up word count, but I am told that is not how people talk and I should give the reader what they expect.
So we'll see if they come around.

Not everyone uses swear/cuss words in their everyday vocabulary. While I've used a few 'colorful' words in time of need, they are attention getters, they are not something I use everyday. Stick to your guns Don.

Chief,
I agree, if you don't use them then there's your evidence that not all people cuss/swear. Wish I could same the same, but enlisting in 76 into the Army and going into the Field Artillery changed all that for life. I do try and watch my language, but something always seem to slip out.

Nice find, I'll look out for it. Meanwhile I'm working my way through series' 1 and 2 of 'Battlefield'. Key battles of WW2 are analysed in detail and stats and specs are given for weapons used in each. Plenty of tank footage!
