Default 'The Beast'

Anyone seen this movie? (Apologies if this has come up already). Shown last night on British TV it follows the story of a Soviet T-62 separated from its unit and lost in the foothills of the Afghan mountains during the Russian occupation in 1981, and its crew under the brutal leadership of its commander.
Beautifully filmed there's lots of tank action and, although there is some attempt at a plot, the real star is the beleaguered tank.</p>

Yep, I picked up the DVD at a local store for only 5 bucks. Great interior and close up shots of the tank that actually runs.

Great movie with really good scenes of the working parts of the T-62 as well as its operational limitations as well as strong points. I got the video casette after seeing the film on TV a couple times, but have not seen the DVD. It shows very well the mentality of the hard line communist indoctrinated leadership which has not changed for decades. Nice aspect of the film was the human relations and differences of personalities within the tank crew. A lot like the TV series "Combat".

According to the International Movie Data Base website................

Factual errors: When they are traversing the turret manually as Konstantine and the Afghans are rushing towards the tank, we're shown a view of the muzzle of the tank gun, and the rifling can be very clearly seen. The Soviet T-62 tank employs a 115mm smoothbore gun, which does not have rifling. The "T-62" tank used in the film was actually a Ti-67 tank - an Israeli modification carried out on captured T-54 and T-55 tanks.

Whatever tank it was, it was a great movie, and they used real ammo when they shot up the village in the beginning.

I saw 'The Beast' on HBO not long after it came out in 1988. Excellent movie!! And look how young Jason Patric and Stephen Baldwin is then!

For years I thought about ordering it but the only VHS copies of it back then went for about $90 in any of the video catalogs I had so obviously I didn't order it. It wasn't until just a few years ago that the price has come down to normal AND it's now on DVD.

Since it's rainy outside today, I've got the tacos and ICE COLD BEEER ready and I'm gonna watch it today!

I remember renting it from the PX video store at Ft Hood Tx. and thought of keeping it and saying I lost it. My integrity got the best of me and I returned it. I have been looking for it since. Anyone have a source for it?

Thanks

Jim
